With one week to go, we have a decent playoff picture. On my side of the state I think there are two districts that are pretty much set.

D7- VM / Clarinda / Clarke / I-35
D8- Kuemper / RS / DMC / SE Valley

Anything else for certain yet? I could have also screwed this up with my lack of sleep ;)

Mepo is D5 winner. Still some to sort out for 2-4 teams. Probably will be Mid-Prairie, West Burlington and Albia.

In D4 it’s Monticello then Camanche. Northeast and Anamosa play next week, winner is 3 and loser 4.

District 3 is a mess. Waukon, NFV, and New Hampton are all 3-1. Cresco is 2-2 and Osage is 1-3. Waukon lost to NFV (Waukon's first district loss in 6 years as crazy as that is). NFV lost to New Hampton (who lost to Osage). Waukon vs. New Hampton and NFV vs. Cresco in week 8. Cresco beat Osage as well. The top 4 will be Waukon, New Hampton, NFV, and Cresco. The order will be decided Friday. Who would have guessed that a top ten ranked Osage team to start the year would miss the playoffs?! Not this guy.

Based off of BCMOORE predictions:

D1:
CLGLR - 8-0 - 5-0
WL. - 7-1 - 4-1
Western - 6-2 - 3-2
Cherokee - 5-3 - 2-3

D2:
Spirit Lake - 7-1 - 5-0
ELC. - 5-3 - 4-1
Forest City - 4-4 - 3-2
Clarion GD - 3-5 - 2-3

D3:
North FV. - 4-4 - 4-1
Waukon - 5-3 - 4-1
New
Hampton. - 4-4 - 3-2
Cresco - 2-6 - 2-3

D4:

Monticello - 7-1 - 5-0
Camanche - 4-4 - 4-1
Gooselake - 4-4 - 3-2
Anamosa - 4-4 -2-3

D5:
Mediapolis - 6-2 - 5-0
Mid Prairie - 4-4 - 4-1
West
Burlington - 5-3 - 3-2
Albia. - 4-4 - 2-3

D6:
PCM - 6-2 - 5-0
Jesup. - 5-3 - 4-1
West
Marshall. - 3-5 - 3-2
Iowa Falls. - 2-6 - 2-3

D7:
Van Meter - 8-0 - 5-0
Clarinda. - 6-2 - 4-1
Clarke. - 4-4 - 3-2
I 35. - 3-5 - 2-3

D8:
Kuemper - 6-2 - 5-0
Roland Story - 6-2 - 4-1
DesMoines
Christian - 4-4 - 3-2
SE Valley. - 5-3 - 2-3

The top 10 from the state will be interesting.

I would predict if BCMOORE predictions are accurate.

1.) CLGLR
2.) Van Meter
3.) Monticello
4.) West Lyon
5.) Spirit Lake
6.) Kuemper
7.) Western Christian
8.) PCM
9.) Mediapolis
10.) Roland Story

I could be wrong, but I believe the only districts where the champion isn’t decided is D1 and D3. But some movement in 2-4 in many of the districts is possible.

This is pretty much inline with my thoughts. Though I could see them sending D3 champ over to D1 champ.

Agree with most of this. With geography (they say it doesn't matter but it does haha), it makes it a little difficult. Made a map to try to help with this and here are thoughts. Of course, all moot for now.

I don't see West Lyon on your map.
Good catch! The map pinned a different location instead of the school district. I was being lazy and didn't move it. That blows up my auto-script for distance too. Will have to reevaluate. Thanks USF!

Yeah, Kuemper is either going to get VM or CLGLR in the pod. Pick your poison. Almost inevitable (in my view) to make a path for CLGLR, VM, WL, and Monty without a "Pod of Death" featuring 3 ranked teams. We'll see how it falls by Saturday before I redo the projections.

Here are my thoughts with qualifiers announced.

4 @ 1
Okoboji @ Central Lyon
Cherokee Washington @ Spirit Lake
SE Valley @ Van Meter
I35 @ Kuemper
Anamosa @ Mediapolis
Albia @ PCM
NFV @ Monticello
Union @ Waukon

3 @ 2

Clarion @ West Lyon
Western Christian @ Estherville
West Marshall @ New Hampton
West Burlington @ Camanche
Northeast @ MidPrairie
Crestwood @ Jesup
DMC @ Clarinda
Clarke @ RS

A little different. A few schools I could see going different directions, like Clarke and West Marshall.

Working on what I think the pods will be, but if they go by their own rankings and trying to get best teams to the dome then a couple teams will be traveling maybe including 1 or 2 higher ranked teams due to their postseason site assignment criteria.

Here’s my pod predictions based on my picks above, IHSAA rankings and getting the top 2 teams home games through the quarterfinals. The criteria makes it impossible to get the top 4 district champs home games through the quarterfinals.

Pod 2
Carroll Kuemper
PCM
West Lyon
Clarinda

Pod 3

I haven't looked at what criteria is used in forming the pods but your pod predictions don't look balanced based on the state rankings.

Pod 1 has 3 top 7 teams.
Pod 2 has 4 top 9 teams
Pod 3 has Van Meter
Pod 4 has Monticello and Mediapolis.

Again, I have no idea what criteria is used in forming the pods, but Pod 1 and 2 seem that be loaded compared to Pod 3/4.

There is no criteria for forming pods other than district champs won’t play each other until the quarterfinals. I was looking more at getting the top teams in the IHSAA rankings to the dome as well as getting home games through quarterfinals for Central Lyon and Van Meter at least. I know they won’t do it that way though. Also, Monticello is their #4 team per your post with the rankings.

It’s my opinion only and I’m usually wrong so take it for what it’s worth, nothing. I’m usually wrong because I don’t think they have a plan from year to year that’s consistent. It’s anyone’s best guess at this point.

I went with Van Meter and Waukon to give Van Meter the quarterfinal home game. Mepo can only travel to Central Lyon and Carroll Kuemper due to the states criteria. I guess they could put us in Kuemper’s pod if we win this week.

I may have missed it but what criteria keeps Van Meter from having a home game or Mediapolis only being able to travel to CL or Kuemper? The main round two criteria I see is no district champ vs district champ. The manual has very little beyond that from what I have seen.

I’m talking quarterfinals which comes into play when creating the pods that’ll come out Saturday.

Quarterfinals:

The team with the higher finish in their respective district according to the district playoff qualification procedure will be the home team.

If the two teams paired have the same district finish, the team with the fewest number of district losses will be the home team.

If two team have the same district finish and number of district losses, head-to-head competition between the two tied teams will determine the home school with the winner of the head-to-head competition being the home team.

If there was no head-to-head competition, the home school will be determined by the alphabetical system and the school listed FIRST alphabetically will be the home team.

I guess the way I read both sections, the only criteria used to actually build the pods is the district champs can’t play district champs in round 2. The rest is the criteria they will use for home and away when those pods and games have been assigned however they choose to arrange them. I have also heard that they plan on splitting the top four into their own pod. It’s nowhere in writing.

Which means:
- two district champs in each pod.
- CLGLR, VM, WL, Monti all in separate pods (based on rumor)

I may be wrong but that’s all I see

Correct which is what I have. I just took it a step further and have Central Lyon/Van Meter home games in the quarters. Putting Waukon in Van Meter’s pod is only way Van Meter gets a quarterfinal home game unless there’s upsets. I’m making assumptions which may or may not happen.

This would be very sh*tty. I know most don't care about what happens SW of 80/35, but the state did Clarinda no favors with the districts. Having them travel 4+ hours for a playoff game after being ranked all year would be the cherry on top.

I know geographically it presents challenges, but I would be pretty pissed if that is how it ends up. Then again, not a bad matchup ;) @MepoDawg#

My picks:

It has nothing to do with people not caring about the SW, look at the map, Clarinda is all by themselves. Similar to the NW, except the NW has a number of playoff teams. Clarinda's location makes it hard for Clarinda. Look at West Lyon in 2019, traveled to Osage and then to Dike before the dome while be ranked top 3 all year.

Multiple teams will have road trips. Especially, with the state saying district champs wont play round 2. WL is looking at a similar trip to possibly PCM or Waukon while being ranked top 3 all year.

All of this is just specualtion.

Central Lyon vs Roland Story
Waukon vs Crestwood

Van Meter vs New Hampton
PCM vs Clarinda

Kuemper vs West Lyon
Spirit Lake vs Western Christian

Monticello vs Mid Prairie
Mediapolis vs Camanche

This is what I would go with, there isn't an easy answer with probably so many teams in the far NW corner of the state. I don't know if it were Waukon vs CL/GLR if the state would consider a neutral site game like at Algona which has a turf field. But that is taking an advantage away from a school who earned it.

Cherokee winning would make it a lot easier to put things into pods. I know they have been overshadowed by the other three in their district but what chances do you really give them? I'm asking because I don't know.
