Q&A with Underwood running back Maddox Nelson
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“The season has been going well. Our practices are very competitive, and we are getting better every day.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I have been happy with how I’ve been playing as a whole, but I know there are still plenty of small things that I can improve on to up my game.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“The team has been playing hard, and the young guys are doing a great job learning and competing every day.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“There is always room for improvement, but if there was one aspect of the game I would like our team to get better at it would be playing the game with a chip on your shoulder. We have many playmakers on the team that just need a little more fire in them to change the game tremendously.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“For our team to be most successful, we need to make big plays and capitalize in the red zone. If we are able to do these two things we will be able to compete with the best teams in the state.”

..............................................
Q&A with Hempstead running back Quinn Breitbach
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“So far football season has been great. It’s always good lifting, practicing and watching film with my teammates, and now we get pads and can play some real football.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I wasn’t pleased with how I played last season and even now I still feel there is much more room for improvement going into this year.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“The team has played well, but there’s always room to get better and that’s what we focus on.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Communication. The little things matter and we all need to be on the same page before and during the play.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“To be successful this season we need to be disciplined. We need to know our assignments and execute, take responsibility for mistakes and make up for them in the next play.”

..............................................
Q&A with Iowa City High linebacker Holdon Clay
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“Off to a rough start. We are 0-1 but that doesn’t shape who we are. We have improved and learned from it and still have a long way to go.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I had a good first game but came up short in the end. I play my heart out every time I step on the field and don’t plan on changing anytime soon.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“I think we played okay. Not great, but not terrible. We have improved and grown from the first game and we all can and will play better.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Player driven leadership. We have leadership, but just from a few players. It takes everybody to make a great team, not just a couple people.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“I think the key to our success as a team is to play every snap and every down like it’s our last. Play as hard as you can because you only get so many and you never know what could happen.”

..............................................
Q&A with Bondurant-Farrar quarterback Jordan Rial
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“Got off to a rough start, losing week 1, but hoping to get back in the win column this week against Grinnell.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“Week 1 went pretty good, but there’s things that I need to improve on going forward.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“We have had some ups and downs so far, so I just need to get better every day going forward, myself included.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“I would say just being mentally tough through all four quarters despite the results of a play or drive. Staying disciplined and consistent through those ups and downs.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“Just focusing on winning one game at a time and controlling what we can control.”

..............................................
Q&A with Columbus tight end Markel Zapiensz
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“As of right now, football is going great. After our loss against Mediapolis, we went straight to work and everyone has been busting their butt off. I love that and it creates a great environment for people to get better.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“No. I'm never satisfied with what I do and I always try to get better every practice or game whether working on technique, watching film, or improving my mentality.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“We've played "okay" but I know we are better. We just got to fix the little mistakes and we'll be golden.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“Our team is great but what I think we can improve on is mentality. For years, we've never had a winning season so something going wrong in a game is normalized. If we can fix that and which I know we can, Columbus could mean more than just being a good football team.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“I think it's physicality. No matter what scheme you play, if you go hard and do your job, a lot of good can come out of that. So if we go hard every play, we can get 6 points out of every series.”

lewis central and harlan sept. 8

lewis central beats adm by 7, i was surprised. my thoughts going into the game, lc would lose #2 for the year, but it was not to be....congrats to lc for a huge win, adm has a state track team in their backfield. sept 22 matup with glenwood will be a good one

harlan cyclones, i initially would have flipped a coin on this one, but a slight edge would have went to glenwood. the story of the game, glenwood had at least 10 penalties in this one, and it cost them dearly. cylones did not break in this one, and hung in their tough on their long drive to kick the winning field goal as time ran out....creston will play harlan sept 22, another good game

2A -- Week 3

It has been an interesting start to the season for 2A football. Still difficult to get a solid top 10 with many 2A dropping games early in the season.

Preseason top 10 teams West Marshall, New Hampton, and Kuemper all sitting at 0-2 and face very good teams in week 3.

In my mind there are 4-5 at the top of 2A and then 10-15 in a group behind them. Things will clear up after a few more games, but this is how I see it.

1.) CLGLR - 2-0 - Defending champs still unbeaten. Enough said
2.) Van Meter - 2-0 - Should be a good test this week against Humboldt
3.) West Lyon - 2-0 - Young team stays unbeaten after 52-12 win over Lawton Bronson.
4.) Western Christian - 2-0 - BCMoore's #1 is still unbeaten. Man, district 1 is loaded.
5.) Osage - 1-1 - Probably the start of tier two. Osage started with tough loss to St. Ansgar.
6.) Spirit Lake - 1-1 - Dropped one to a solid 3A Sioux Center team.
7.) PCM - 1-1 - Tough 1 point loss last week.
8.) Cherokee - 2-0 - Maybe too high but they are 2-0 and have a very good junior class.
9.) Greene County - 1-1 - Tough schedule to start the year with 3 straight 3A teams.
10.) Unity - 1-1 - Good week 1 win followed by let down against Ridge View

TOP WEEK 3 GAMES

Van Meter @ Humboldt
Clarinda @ Treynor
Osage @ DNH
PCM @ Nevada
Cherokee @ Ridge View
Kuemper @AHST
Mediapolis @ Regina

Thinking about opening a Driving School in Athens....

Georgia football coaching staff member Jarvis Jones was arrested on charges of reckless driving and speeding less than 24 hours before the two-time defending champion Bulldogs' season opener.

Jones, a former All-American linebacker at Georgia who played four seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is the Bulldogs' player connection coordinator under coach Kirby Smart. Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Jones, Friday night, on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and speeding-maximum limits.

At least a dozen Bulldogs players have been charged with moving violations since the team won the championship in January.

WTF is going on???
