Coaching Openings 23-24

Don't know if Mt. Vernon has officially been posted yet, but it made Twitter yesterday that he is indeed going to CCA.

I don't know if this is true or not but I had someone tell me that Coach Pedersen lives in Marengo? If true wanting to go to CCA would make sense, much closer drive.

Don’t know much about Bollers as a coach. Why him over the Mt. Vernon coach?
I simply thought that CCA at some point would want some continuity with their coaching staff. The fact that program hasn't been able to win has to lie at the feet of the community and administration.

The guy has been around the program, knows the game, has a good pool for assistants. Having said that, it seems like they found a quality hire.

Good points, I keep waiting for them to start winning more. They have some potential.

Any updates on these jobs? I've seen a few more openings like Shenandoah, Maquoketa Valley and Melcher Dallas.

Some of these jobs have been open for a while, when was AP posted?

Des Moines LIncoln hired an interim. Can't believe they don't think they could find a coach in March with brand new facilities and an all-state running back returning.

But alas. Des Moines North also hired an interim.

Maybe they will form a co-op team with lincoln, Roosevelt, hoover, and North. That way they can compete with the burbs. They already share a stadium. Just a thought

Mt Vernon just hired Brad Meester. He has been the OC for the last 3-4 years. Being a retired NFL player probably didn't hurt the resume either!

Lance Pedersen does live in Marengo. That was likely a big factor, but I also heard that he gets to coach his youngest son now, which would make any dad move schools for that opportunity. He'll do a good job there and I imagine it won't take long for him to turn things around. They just got the Poynton kid from Solon as a transfer, so that should help too. He was their leading rusher at almost 1000 yds and is only a soph.

Nashua-Plainfield is looking for a HC

Still nothing on Aplington-Parkersburg?? I figured they would have hired someone by now, that's been open a long time.

I think coaches are looking long and hard from how the previous coach was basically let go. I hate to say it but their seems to be to much Thomas influence in this coaching job and that is not helping finding a good coach let alone someone who wants to run their program and not how it was run in the past. As far at the NP coach I heard he took a job at Maq Valley witch is an interesting hire as I don't think any connection there but I don't think he was a teacher at NP or maybe he doesn't teach at all witch is not uncommon anymore for coaches.

hilarious update on Perry…sounds like the new coach/AD that was hand picked by the Supt got into a battle of wills with each other over what S&C program would be used. Sounds like the Supt picked his program and the new coach/AD resigned. People in community were not happy with the original hiring process so it now has blown up in the superintendent’s face. Rumors are that he approached an internal candidate that he had turned down before and they told him to get bent.

I saw that the old NP/ new MV coach's wife is from that area so that is the connection. I also saw that he teaches/taught at Charles City, I know that school district is a less than desirable place to work so that might be a push towards him leaving as well.

Oh my gosh...what a mess!!

Update on AP. Aaron Thomas (Ed’s son) and the AD decided that Aaron would take over the head football spot. Last night the school board voted no to it and now AP is left scrambling to find a coach before with not much time before summer workouts start. What a mess.

Good for the AP school board, to me this is the correct decision. I really wonder what they will do now?

Coach Pollock never should have been asked to resign.

I don’t remember if I shared this but from what I was told, the school board wasn’t very happy with how the administration handled things. They were fairly blindsided when Pollock announced he was asked to step down

Forest City names Tyler Anderson, 2016 Forest City alum, as new head coach.

Panorama hired Charlie Lake, I believe he was an assistant there.

Nashua Plainfield hired Chase Sudol, he was an assistant but also the former head coach 8 or so years ago.

Update to the update: The AP school board had a “reconsideration special meeting” and Aaron Thomas will be the head football coach on an interim basis

Did Ames finalize on their head coach? I think I saw somewhere that it was another interim deal... with all these schools doing interim tags- what does that specifically mean? Basically they are on a "try-out" perspective or what are everyone's thoughts?

Many schools don’t let the AD much less a principal be a head coach, and he’s going to do two sports.

I really think they screwed themselves from getting a quality candidate as long as him and the AD are there.

Iowa City Liberty promoted Scott Chandler to head coach. Did anyone know that was open? Also, Linn-Mar is looking for a head coach. My guess is an assistant will get promoted.

Generally they give an "interim" tag as its so late in the school year that they do not have an teaching positions available so that significantly limits the pool of candidates. Plus, you don't have much time to post a position, interview candidates and then get them to start before summer workouts begin that its better for your program to have an assistant run the program for a season on an interim basis

Does anyone know the story behind the Linn Mar guy leaving? It seems super late in the game for this.
