How about a thread for off season soccer discussion?
It's fall and while many top soccer players play football, there seem to be more and more dedicated soccer players who use the fall to play with their club teams in league action and tournaments.
Let's take a look at a couple of recent tournaments:
The Midwest Classic Tournament was held Sept. 27th and 28th just north of Cedar Rapids. Looking at the U18 'elite' levels boys, the Champions were FC United, a club based out of Hiawatha. Second place went to Cedar Valley Soccer Club, based out of Cedar Falls, IA.
In the 'Gold' flight at the Midwest Classic, the Champions were Southeast Elite Soccer Club, based out of Burlington, IA. Second place went to Waverly Shell-Rock.
The JUSC Cup was held in Des Moines on Sept. 12-14. The U18 Gold division was won by Sporting Iowa Academy, a team formed by the union of JUSC (Johnston and Urbandale Soccer Club) and WDMSC (West Des Moines Soccer Club), and which has a new affiliation with the MLS club Sporting Kansas City.
This tournament also featured a 'High School' bracket with a 'Gold' flight and a 'Silver' flight. The Gold flight was won by CRSA (Cedar Rapids Soccer Association) who defeated the Des Moines Menace Academy team based out of Des Moines.
Upcoming tournaments include:
Kohl's Fall Cup - Oct 11&12 in Altoona, IA
Burlington Monster Match Oct. 18&19 in Burlinton, IA
Then it's the Big One...The State Cup for U15-U18 teams which is the premiere tournament in Iowa that takes place over three weekends with the winners being able to advance into national competition.
