Someone also used Avoca as a measuring tool for IKM and SE....... Look what WL did to them last year......Yikes
WL vs CL/GLR has also been used as why WL is weak against the run. I am a CL/GLR fan and I will be the first one to admit that if these teams played again. It would be a complete different game(CL/GLR would still win I believe, but it would be close). WL hammered CL/GLR in the trenches. CL/GLR rushing yards came from the QB getting loose on 2 big runs.
I agree that SE has played better rushing team than WL, and I have an answer to why. The teams in WL district have great athletes and know that they can't beat WL if their bread and butter is the run game. The arrogance CP84 to believe that SE is better than CL/GLR is just laughable. CL/GLR loses this year. Heelan, SC, SPL, and SC. is a great resume.
I know SE is a catholic school so they should recognize the 1st commandment. " I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange god before me"
You hold O'Toole on a pedestal. You use yards/carry on all of your arguments except his rushing stats. He has 163 more carries than WL leading rusher. I believe this is why some people have been calling SE a 1 trick pony; not because they don't throw.
Finally.... The size advantage, which SE fans are trying to blow off because they think it doesn't matter. Well let me tell you that you IT DOES MATTER. WL isn't just a bunch of slow fatties. These are big, fast, strong, mean SOB farm boys that will get after you for 4 quarters. WL will be the most physical team you will have faced. That is a fact.
I'm sure CP84 or DT#61 will accuse me of not stating facts.......Your correct this is MY OPINION....just like you are stating yours.

Thanks for you service. We will all enjoy the games win or lose (some more than others). This message board banter sometimes looks worse than it is. It's all in good fun. The final four teams are all deserving to be there and I wish them all good luck.Originally posted by cook2016:

I'm certain both TEAMS will give it their best shot.Congrats to both for getting this far and good luck to ALL the players!
I "think" SE will win by a touchdown......but I'm biased and have no stats to back up my prediction. Just going with the TEAM from Fort Dodge!
For those wondering, my son occasionally allows me to post under his username - such a nice young man.
Deploying soon and will miss the semis and finals but will be looking here for scores and details - hopefully, without a lot of bickering . Lighten up and enjoy the game! Wish I was going.

(Usually what happens when discussing sports and the two or more parties discussing the subject are on opposite sides, one side gives their opinion, and then the other rebuttles....It's a rare occasion when you see both parties immediately agree with the position one side has made. For example, why should SE fans simply agree with others and say that West Lyon is the better team and will win? That's not how it works...normally. Unless they also truly feel that their team won't win. Like if you were an Iowa State fan and told Iowa fans that they will lose to Illinois...right now you'll probably find a lot of Iowa fans willing to agree.)
SE you haven't earned the reputation that WL has yet. (Irrelevent.) That may change this week, but I believe that you will be utterly disappointed. (Of course. That's your opinion, and also the side of the argument you're taking.)
(Though, my question would be, are you in charge of whether or not SE's reputation improves depending on the outcome of this game? You seem to have knowledge of how this stuff works....regarding reputation, etc and what not.....
If the Gaels win, are they "invited to the super secret awesome team club"?.......)[/B]

WL vs CL/GLR has also been used as why WL is weak against the run. (No, they actually just explained why the Lions had success.) I am a CL/GLR fan and I will be the first one to admit that if these teams played again. It would be a complete different game(CL/GLR would still win I believe, but it would be close) (Are you sure? You don't think Wet Lyon would win? Why not?....)[/B].
WL hammered CL/GLR in the trenches. CL/GLR rushing yards came from the QB getting loose on 2 big runs. (212 yds and 3 TDs to go along with 257 yds and 2 TDs passing. 7.3 yards per carry on 29 carries. And no I'm not saying anything, I'm just putting the stats out there for everyone to read.)
I agree that SE has played better rushing teams than WL, and I have an answer to why. CL/GLR loses this year. Heelan, SC, SPL, and SC. is a great resume. (It is a tough schedule, but there's no bowl game or 65-team tournament you're looking to make with a great resume.....It makes you better for a postseason run, but you also need to win those games for it to make any difference.)
I know SE is a catholic school so they should recognize the 1st commandment. " I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange god before me" (What?....)
You hold O'Tool on a pedestal. (Not really.) You use yards/carry on all of your arguments except his rushing stats. (I don't know what you're saying here.)
He has 163 more carries than WL leading rusher. (Yeah?...) I believe this is why some people have been calling SE a 1 trick pony; not because they don't throw. (You believe? So that possibly means that you're guessing, or making an assumption, or at the very least you aren't 100% certain....correct?
Landon Peed was 8th in District 7 with 109 carries, second on the team, just over 9 carries a game.)
Finally.... The size advantage, which SE fans are trying to blow off because they think it doesn't matter. Well let me tell you that you IT DOES MATTER. (And I'm telling you that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle of what both sides are claiming. Sure, the Wildcats have great size on the lines. That doesn't mean that they can't be beat by a team with a smaller line, now does it. And to say "but it is much more difficult" is irrelevant to the sheer fact that it is possible. Just sayin.) WL isn't just a bunch of slow fatties. These are big, fast, strong, mean SOB farm boys that will get after you for 4 quarters. (And?....) WL will be the most physical team you will have faced. That is a fact. (And St. Eds will be the most physical team West Lyon has faced....until either/or faces Regina. Deal with it.)
I'm sure CP84 or DT#61 will accuse me of not stating facts (Nope, because you aren't using stats to make assumptions about a team you haven't seen play).......You're correct this is MY OPINION....just like you are stating yours. I only asked because I wouldn't think an adult would be calling high school athletes butthurt and wanting more, but maybe I just hold myself to higher standards (because I went to a private christian school). (Hey I didn't know that about you, ghost. Learn something new every day!) I don't know (because I can't try to put that in a stat). (Probably a good idea. Wouldn't want to hurt yourself.)
It just sounded like something, you know (IDK - please expand), (Absolutely not, but it's been great talking to you.) a kid would say (and I'm an expert on that) (As a parent or are you saying you're actually a kid all along?)....that's all.

Nice breakdown. This is welcome relief after a series of posts adding such value as calling people d-bags or making fun of their athletic value. Post more often.Originally posted by usfhawk:
I don't want to get into this argument, but here are my two cents.
This is going to be one heck of a game. These two teams have combined for over 8000 rushing yards this year!
The Comparison:
FDSE:
Offense: 4768 total yards / 4182 rushing / 556 passing
Standouts:
TJ O'Tool: 359 carries / 2534 yards / 46 TDS
Landon Peed: 109 carries / 715 yards / 5 TDS / 13 Rec / 316 yards / 4 TDS
Defense:
- Allowed only 8.58 points per game
- Allowed only 200.9 yards of total offense per game
Standouts:
Eric Kremer: 77 tackles / 4 sacks
Nick Hindt: 58 tackles / 1 INT
WL:
Offense: 4680 total yards / 4161 rushing / 519 passing
Standouts:
Vaughn Moser: 196 carries / 1719 yards / 19 TDS
Chase Grotewold: 85 carries / 825 yards / 11 TDS
Defense:
- Allowed only 12.92 points per game
- Allowed only 228.4 yards of total offense per game
Standouts:
Jake Newborg: 35 tackles / 6 sacks
Trevor Rozeboom: 55.5 tackles / 2 INTs
The Breakdown: These teams are very similar in both style and stats. FDSE has a slight edge in offensive and defensive stats, but stats can be skewed for a number of reasons including quality of opponents and when teams are pulling their starters. When comparing the carries of each team's feature backs I think its fair to say that O'Tool plays deeper into games than Moser. According to bcmoore FDSE plays the 13th most difficult schedule in 1A while WL plays the 9th most difficult. With no common opponents its tough to get a read on who has the edge either way.
This game will be won up front. Which team wins the battle in the trenches will win this game. West Lyon may have the size advantage and are very skilled upfront, but FDSE is just as impressive. They fly off the ball and play down hill. I see this one being a low scoring game. Both teams will need to have guys step up. Looking forward to a good one!!!
I don't see ad hominem attacks in my previous replies. I've tried to keep this discussion limited to the game. You go from blanket statement ad hominem attacks to ripping on a coach.Originally posted by KarmaKiller:
How irresponsible is it to run a kid 48 times in a 35-13 game?
Not to mention 31 times four days prior in a 47-0 game. I hear arguments about pitch counts all the time in baseball but that's just an arm. Here, we are talking about a much more serious concern.
Not to mention, this kid is 175lbs. Yes, I realize this coach has done this to numerous kids over their careers but it is still pretty ridiculous
I will take the under on O'Tool getting 200.Originally posted by CP84:
Doubtful. They allowed Central Lyon to run for 208 yards at 7.2 ypc. SE has a better running game.Originally posted by maxstabs13:
O'Toole is 175... Sorry but Rozeboom, Moser, and Knobloch will eat him up...
SE absolutely shut down a top 5 1A halfback in Michael Santi, holding him to 35 yards on 13 carries. Madrid has a big line on offense as well.
WL is obviously better than Madrid overall but Madrid has one of the best running games in the class.
O'Tool will go for 200 in this one barring an injury.

200 may be a stretch prediction but I think it could be achieved regardless of the final score. Not many single backs have gone for 150+ because not many teams they've faced rely heavily on a single back. E-berg split 36 carries between 3 backs totaling 190 yards. A fair amount of that was in garbage time.Originally posted by usfhawk:

Off the top of my head I cannot think of the last time West Lyon allowed a single back to run for over 200. (Can't remember a back running for over 150)
I did mention that E-berg got one long drive in garbage time, however, it's interesting that Moser was still carrying the ball with 6 minutes left in the game already up 28-0 against E-berg.Originally posted by usfhawk:
What quikstatsiowa doesn't tell you is that the majority of yards gained against WL were late in games when freshman and sophomores were on the field. WL does good job of when a gain is under control to get young guys in the game. Starters played one half in most of the games this year, Emmetsburg included.
Interesting stat: OTool has more carries in a season than any player in the state since 2011.

understand where all of us high school football players that actually
played are coming from.
Only because of games played. Attempts per game there have been people leaned on more. See Parmely, Maquoketa Valley.Originally posted by usfhawk:
