All the mainstream is shouting is……climate change

Not the negligence of a drained reservoir ….under staffing….insurance companies canceling policies because it was unsafe….or Trump warning about the overgrowth

There's a lot of local/state policies in California make it worse, but the entire western US is slowly becoming more and more of a tender box. Fires use to burn all summer long in the western US, now we put all of them out and have been doing it for a century. Same issues in other parts of the world. Fire is essential and natural in these regions, yet we've chosen to build in those areas and alter how fire operates in these areas.

I get that it's a bit of a catch 22, since humans live in these areas now. Sure a ton of work could be done to help with the overgrowth and we could mitigate a certain percentage of it, but it's going to take a schit ton of work and years of good policies to make much of a dent in the problem.

Good policies. That’s the key right there.

Poor policies and shit leadership have made this the mess it is today.

There is reason we don't see the same level of forest fires in OR or WA (and/or British Victoria)... and it isn't just the Santa Ana winds (which also reach as far as southern OR. It is simply the act of 'managing forests' that CA has refused to do over the decades.
Combine that with dumping BILLIONS of gallons of water each year from Northern CA rain and snowmelt into the Pacific Ocean vs. building reservoirs, cisterns, aqueducts, tunnels, canals, you name it to provide the most precious item the entire state needs. It is simply insane that they allow the smelt (BS) to halt construction of the above mentioned... and look now how much it has cost them. This will be the largest dollar disaster in history, and thousands of lives are affected with no way to rebuild.
80% of people's wealth was in their home... but the home they paid $500k for in 2000 that WAS worth $2.3mm just burned down. IF they had insurance (big IF), they are not going to get paid on $2.3mm... they'll be lucky to get the $500k and it will be impossible to rebuild anything other than a Lean-To on their property for that. There is no other alternative except a mass exodus to a state or region with much lower costs of homes/living. Shame. A real shame that the good people who didn't vote for all this leftist crap and voted for DJT. I have about 8 new neighbors from CA that are sad for their friends who were in these fires and lost their homes, but are more than glad they moved when they did.

To be fair, the water climate in OR or WA is better than CA, but it’s a poorly kept secret that CA legislature and LA county made the decision to NOT manage the forests and just let the Feds pay for any”excessive” results

….. yeah, they just had a REALLY excessive fire result
