Q&A with Regina outside linebacker Tate Wallace

How did the high school football season go overall?
“I thought the football season went very well and we accomplished a lot of our team goals and now we are training every day for next season.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans are to stay playing my four sports which are basketball, baseball, football and track and continue to get better at all of those sports.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel like our football team will be very young next season but that will not change our season's impact and I do believe we will be one of the top teams in the state if we put in the work that is needed.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I believe the Wilton Beavers could be our hardest game next season because they do return about the whole starting lineup so I think that game will be our most challenging.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I believe that Drew Keith the QB from Wilton will be our toughest player to go against because of his speed he has at the QB position.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would like to play football when I get to college and preferably at the LB position but I would be grateful for any opportunity.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“There have not been many colleges recruiting me yet but Wisconsin would definitely be up there because I went to a game-day visit up there in the fall and I really liked it.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I believe that Wisconsin is recruiting me the hardest but I am very early in the recruiting process so I will have to wait and see.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have made four college trips in the summer to some college camps and I went to Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State and Minnesota and to Wisconsin in the fall for a game day visit.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?

Q&A with Jefferson running back Iishara Kalolero

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season started out very good for our team, but we came up short of our goals. We made a lot of progress coming off a 0-9 season last year to 4-5, but that’s not good enough and we are motivated to keep building. Our team is already ‘standing on business’ as DK Metcalf is doing.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Strength: Off season lifting is already in swing and going well. Faster: prepping for track season right now. How do you get better at running… go out and run. Bigger: We have a strength and conditioning coach who I am working with on my nutrition and gaining muscle in the kitchen also. Recovery and body control: I am going to concentrate on getting better sleep, take more time post workouts for stretching and start taking yoga classes. I am sure LBs will roll their eyes at that, but they better not blink.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I know we have a very good chance of making it to the playoffs off next season. We are building something at Jefferson and everyone has bought into what our coaches are asking of us.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Next year we will be looking to make some major progress against the three teams that really shut us down. We lost our way in those games and we have to come together better as a team to push through adversity and put some points up against them.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I don’t follow peoples’ names on other teams. They are just people with numbers playing a position when I watch a film. IC West has some players I figure.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Without a doubt I want to play football in college. I am going to make it on a team, just have to work on finding where.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I am currently working on getting my info out to college recruiters. I am a little behind on this but am working hard on catching up.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Can’t really answer that…yet.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not made any trips yet.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“Plans are to start doing this after the new year.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Being so close to Iowa City, I suppose it is the Hawkeyes.”

Q&A with Woodbine athlete Landon Blum
How did the high school football season go overall?
“I would say my freshman year went pretty good, we have a very young team and one of our goals was to make it to the State Playoffs and we made that happen.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am playing basketball currently and we are hoping to have a pretty big year, I will also run and jump during track season and hope to do well in those, and I will play for ETG Midwest 3SSB in the summer for basketball.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel like our team can make a big run at the State Playoffs next year, we have more kids coming up for these next couple of years and we are led by a great quarterback Brody Pryor.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Remsen St. Mary’s will definitely be the toughest team on our schedule. We faced them last year and kept it close for most the second quarter then we made some rookie mistakes and they pulled away. They were led by a lot of juniors this year so it should be a fun game next year.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I feel like one of the biggest individual players we will face off against is Remson’s QB. He ran for probably around 250 yards against us when we played them. He is very scrappy and can shed off a lot of tackles.”

The weak east

As the east and west divisions become no more, I couldn't help but drop this final nugget.

In regular-season play over the 32 division seasons, the West had a 304-235-3 record against the East – a .564 winning percentage that wasn’t far from the results of the SEC Championship Game. The Western Division representative won 19 of the 32 SEC Championship games – a .594 winning percentage.

The most lopsided seasons of interdivision competition came in 2015, when the West posted a 12-2 record, and 2010, when the West went 15-3 against the East.

The West had a winning record against the East in 17 seasons, the East had a winning record against the West in six seasons and the divisions split the games in nine seasons.
