Anybody see any of these games and want to share some non-flame comments?

Iowa City West over Bett 2-0

Slow first half killed crushed the bulldogs. The game evened out in the second half over. Credit Iowa City West on a great game though. Two great teams.

It's looking like a league of haves (Bett, PV, Central & Musc) and have nots (everyone else). Any comments on Burlington?

Burlington is playing a very quick attacking game at the moment. Solid first touch with first instinct is to go to goal hard. They foul a lot, but if refs allow it, why not?

Very tough and opportunistic offense, their defense may be a bit unorganized.

No surprises in results, but a bit surprised with the one goal result Bettendorf had
 
Is it true that Central's only MAC scores have been by PKs? If that is true, that would be 3 fouls in the box in 2 games. Were the fouls dirty or just tough defense?

Central vs PV - 3-2 Central
Burlington vs North - 2-1 North
NS vs West - 3-1 North Scott
Bett vs Musc - 2-1 Bettendorf
Clinton vs Assumption - 2-1 Assumption

Going out on a limb on a few. We will see.
 
Definitely not as clear cut as this week.
Central v PV, good battle between 2 of the top 3 teams. Flip a coin.
NS v West, Clinton v Assumption, battles for the bottom 4. Who knows.

But am surprised at the North over Burlington pick. But hey, anything can happen in any game on any given day.
 
Things finally get interesting. After playing in the shadows of the big 2 (Bett & PV) all these years, Central badly wants to validate their program. They have a lot of talent returning and I'm sure have had the PV & Bettendorf games in '09 circled on their calendars for a long time. Well, they get their first shot on Tuesday. I'm not going to predict a winner, but until Central beats somebody I would still give a slight edge to PV.

Bett over Musc 2-1, Bett is down this year and this could be a trap game

Central really came alive against PV. That was a win we could never pull pull of while I was at the high school.

GymRat, I agree - the Bettendorf / Central game and the North / West games should be the only two where you have to wait to the final minute. I saw Central / PV last week. Yes, Mims has an impact, but Central has so many FAST weapons. Plus Bettendorf has been so uncharacteristically up and down, who knows?

Regardless, I plan to brave the rain and see the game at Brady Street tonight. :)

The games on Thursday are all no brainers. Not a single good match up in the bunch. But hey, it's soccer. Sometimes teams don't show up the night the other team plays the game of their lives.

Ok. I will give it a shot. The Bett - Central game will be great. I hope the weather holds.

Central over Bett 2-1 (Central has offensive weapons. Bett will get scored on)
North over West 3-1 (North has been playing ok, but better than West)
PV over NS 6-1 (North Scott has no way to stop PV. NS gives up lots of goals)
Burlington over Assumption 6-1 (Burlington has offensive speed. Take lots of shots)
Muscatine over Clinton 5-0 (Arceo and friends will score on sloppy Clinton.

Fun season so far!
 
April 28th Results

Two close games :
West over North, 2-1
Burlington over Assumption, 3-2

And two games with huge blowouts :
Muscatine over Clinton, 10-0
PV over North Scott, 9-0

Thursday's games should all be boring. Expect a lot of lopsided scores.
It gets interesting again next week.
 
Schedule and predictions for Tuesday, May 5th

6th game date for MAC teams. Time to start shaking things out in the MAC.

PV at Bettendorf
Last match of the big three (PV, Bett, Central). Both teams have had a few problems. I say a coin flip.

Central at North. Central wins 4-1.

West at Clinton. West wins 3-0

North Scott at Assumption. Assumption wins 2-1

Muscatine v Burlington. Muscatine wins 4-2
 
Bettendorf over PV 3-0
Their record may not reflect it but Bett is still one of the best teams in the state
 
Actually, their record reflects that they are down this year. They don't play a very difficult schedule and they still have 4 losses I believe. Beating PV & Central does not make them one of the best teams in the state. In fact, I think those wins prove that there is parity in the MAC and no one team is a dominant force. Look no further than Bett's losses.

Hudson beat Bettendorf, so Hudson is one of the best teams as well. Interesting.

PV beats Bett, Bett beats Central, Central beats PV. Go figure.
PV and Central are 5-1 in MAC play.
Bett is now 4-2. When was the last time that happened?

Another "haves" vs. "have nots" night of soccer.

PV over North
Bettendorf over North Scott
Burlington over West
Central over Clinton
Muscatine over Assumption

Season is winding down and Central still has yet to play Burlington and Muscatine.

Kind of surprised by the Musc/Burl score. Anyone have any updates from that game?

PV will be a tough out come substate time. They've played a heck of a schedule.

PV's SubState is no picnic. Burlington, Muscatine, and Central are in it. Definitely the SubState from this area to watch.

Two comments:
Do the boys have a 10 goal limit as the girls do? I would guess not based on the PV score. I wonder why the girls have that rule but the boys don't? Also, I think the North Scott score was 2-0 over North.
 
Iowa is the only state with two seperate unions for boys and girls sports, IAHSAA for boys IGHSAU for girls, boys coaches voted against having the mercy rule, it is left up to the coaches to respect the opponents, but newer teams need to be able to play in order to improve, so stopping them early doesn't help anything.
 
Thanks. Good explanation about the girl vs boy rules for scoring. Also, I am confused on the score of the North Scott/North game. I heard it was 2-0 from someone who was there but other sources are saying 1-0. Was a goal called off because of off-sides or something? Are the other sources wrong or was the person from the game not paying attention?
