Q&A with Grinnell running back Kinnick Johnson

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went pretty well, we had a solid team that made it to the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row, so it’s always fun to be a part of that.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans for sports and workouts now are dual sports track and tennis… along with getting into the weight room whenever I can.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I believe our team will be pretty good next year. Our skill guys will have more experience now, and up front there will be some holes to fill with young guys, but I’m very confident they will step up into those spots and do well. We’ll also have another year under our belts with a new coach which will help a lot.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“It’s hard to say what team exactly will be the toughest. Our new district has a lot of good teams with a lot of good returning players as well.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Once again it’s hard to say who will be the toughest. Benton has some good returning players, along with Williamsburg who has Derek, and Solon who has Brett.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to play football in college.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“There have been a variety of schools from D3 D2 and NAIA. For example, Northwestern, Simpson, Minnesota Mankato, Central, Upper Iowa, and Minnesota State Moorhead.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“See above.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I’ve gone to central and northwestern already and for upcoming ones I have a Minnesota Mankato and a northwestern one again. Then possibly upper Iowa and Minnesota State Moorhead.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“See above.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“My favorite college growing up has always been Iowa, being named Kinnick I don’t really have a choice to like another team.”

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went really well. With only one loss in the regular season, it started off super good. We dropped a really close game in the playoffs, but that was probably the most fun game I have ever played. Overall, I was super happy with the season.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am doing track right now. I plan on playing baseball in the summer. My summer will consist of morning lifts, shooting hoops, and a lot of baseball. Until summer I’m going to lift and do whatever I can to stay active.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I am fairly confident we will go undefeated in district play. I haven’t done much research about our district, but from the first look every game should be winnable.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think both Mid Prairie and Davis County will be our toughest games. It’s so hard to tell right now though.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“We have never played any of our district teams, and have never watched any of the players play, so I don’t know of anybody.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would love to play college basketball or football. I love both sports.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“None.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“None.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“No.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I plan on trying to visit some colleges, but none specifically yet.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“Iowa State has always been my favorite college growing up.”

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Our record shows that we did not do the best last season. But personally, I feel that I had a good season.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Currently I am on track and I will be playing baseball this summer.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We will improve this season and continue to grow as a team.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I think that Dewitt will be our hardest competition this year.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest player we will play will probably be Brent Yonkovic from West Delaware.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I would like to play football in college.”

“No colleges have reached out to me yet.”

“N/A.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I went to the University of Dubuque and UW-Platteville.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I would like to visit Wartburg.”

“My favorite college is the University of Iowa.”

How did the high school football season go overall?
“It was okay, it didn't go how we wanted to but we fought hard and had a great time with each other.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“Lifting every day and track is helping me get faster and working on the field a lot.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think we will do very well. I feel like we will be one of the top teams.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“We haven’t gotten our schedule yet but we will play City Liberty and City High. Those will be great games and very exciting.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“We aren’t really worried about one individual.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I want to play football in college, if not that than track.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I’ve been talking to a lot of schools. A few I would say is. USD, Iowa state, University of Northern Iowa, and I talked to NDSU and a couple of others.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I’d say Iowa state they keep in contact with me. I’ve gotten a lot of mail from them.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes I did, I went to an unofficial University of Iowa visit; I went to the University of South Dakota for a junior day.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“Yes I have a lot of junior days coming up, University of Northern Iowa, Iowa state, and NDSU etc.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I liked the University of Iowa because of the area I lived in.”

You know I got to thinking as I watch Bill_D being attacked on this board. Maybe some don't realize that he is

92 years old and can take care of himself in these tussles. He defends LSU rather well to be that old. I will be 87 in November and respect the fact that he fights back, right or wrong. And that he can still type responses.

Most all of you will never reach 92, and if you do, you will probably be incoherently drooling in your oatmeal..... :D :D :D

Update

Guys.. sorry I haven’t been keeping up lately . My health has taken a turn for the worst after my surgery. I’ve had a couple of minor strokes and nerve root rebound swelling is causing problems with some of the cranial nerves exiting the op site. Partial paralysis of left arm hand. All pretty depressing but I’ll pull through I’m told. Keep me in your prayers.. I’ll check in from time to time.
