Way Too Early Class 1A District Projections

Figured we spice up the football talk with districts being released today, I’m starting with Class 1A and who I think will come out on top of each district:

District 1: West Sioux
Really is a choice between West Sioux and OABCIG in my eyes, but I’ll give the slight advantage to the Falcons here. Would not shock me if Lawton-Bronson has a say here.

District 2: Pocahontas Area
This has to be one of the weakest districts I think I’ve seen in quite a long time, with only Poky finishing .500 last season (Emmetsburg did play a playoff game however). However, there’s 4 teams that can legitimately challenge for the crown, but right now I’m leaning with the Indians based on their returnees.

District 3: MFL, MarMac
The Bulldogs have a legitimate shot at the 1A Crown with the pieces they return, and while AP and Dike-New Hartford both graduate big senior classes, I expect them to still stay competitive.

District 4: Grundy Center
It’s hard to imagine that the Spartans aren’t the favorites for the 1A crown in 2023, returning 90% of their production on both sides of the ball, it’s hard to see them getting a regular season test.

District 5: Cascade
The Cougars are my pick in a district that has a lot of teams in rebuilding years. Not sold on Dumont at Regina quite yet, and West Branch graduates a ton.

District 6: Sigourney-Keota
Every year, it feels like we expect S-K to take a step back… and every year they make us look dumb. PC returns quite a bit as well, but the Savage Cobras have had their number lately.

District 7: South Hamilton
The Hawks are a clear-cut favorite in a surprisingly weak D7. South Hamilton returns many starters and contributors off their district title team last year. WG looks to be the stiffest competition outside of that.

District 8: Underwood
The Eagles lose their QB from a year ago, but return their top 2 rushers and top 4 receivers. Hard not to think the Eagles don’t make a return trip to the UNI Dome.

Wouldn't wish ths on anyone

Sitting here at 4 am I am in some serious pain. Had prostatectomy around 2pm and been trying to die since. Fellows this is some serious pain, women have babies is mear childplay. Have a catheter about the size of a broomstick running up my pecker and with every move I make it seems to grow to the size of a fence post. Catheter to be with me for 9 days. 5 incisions on stomach with one about 5 vertical inches just above naval. I believe the robot decided to play grand theft auto while inside there. Talk about sore,,damn. Urologist suppose to be one of the best in the world, damn glad I didn't go to a mediocre one. Was at St Vincent in Birmingham with Dr. Charles Bugg from recommendations . Fellows be damn sure to keep you prostate in mind from 40years of age on. I showed no signs of any problems and my brother had PC I decided to go get screened, I was finep for several years and all of a sudden PSA started to rise and before you know it boom

RIP, the original “Monster of the Midway”

I grew up watching and idolizing Butkus. A Bear’s fan knows PO’s and championships are very few and far between…..very few, but we’ve been blessed to witness some of the greatest LB’s ever, Butkus, Singletary and Urlacher to name a few….. and the greatest running back ever of course. So God will know what to do with The Enforcer.

What does the NFL & Bud Light have in common?

They both don’t seem to know their markets. I’ve spoken with countless FB fans after the “Swifty” game, and to a person they were appalled by the not only the play by play coverage (acting like adolescent girls) but the blatant pro-Chiefs officiating.

Iowa Preps High School Sports Talk

Find out what some of the top players in the state are saying about sports now!

..............................................

Q&A with Northwood-Kensett athlete Kooper Julseth
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“This season has started off pretty good, I switched from wide receiver to Quarterback. Which is a huge difference but it’s a lot of fun.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“Week 1 we took a tough loss to Janesville but I think through more practice and really nailing down plays we can adjust from week to week and find some wins in our schedule.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“Our team so far has played pretty well, obviously with week one we found where our true weaknesses were and worked a lot in practice to correct them.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“My team needs to focus on staying positive, we have one bad thing happen and we put our heads down. We got to figure out how to roll with the punches better and figure out how to respond back.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“Something that was brought up in film was our blocking. Not only the O-Line but skill guys too, we all need to work on our blocking.”

..............................................
Q&A with South Hamilton running back Noah Gunderson
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“We won in week 1 20-14 but we need to play better than we did.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I have played okay and as a team we played decently but definitely need to be better.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“Like I said in question 2, we played well enough to win but it was below our expectations.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“We can improve on flying to the ball and tackling as a team and getting off the ball quicker.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“We have to stay together and do everything as a team. Go 110% and push the guys next to you to get better every day.”

..............................................
Q&A with Spirit Lake quarterback Caden Lundt
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“The team has played great, we have had a ton of new guys step into big roles and perform well.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I have been pleased with most of my output this season other than a couple of bad decisions that led to interceptions.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“We have improved every week, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Those guys have shown great improvement.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“One thing we can improve on is our time of possession, we need to give our defenders a longer break and extend drives.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“Trusting each other as well as ourselves, if we can play as a team we will be special.”

..............................................
Q&A with Columbus running back Kaden Amigon
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“Football has been very successful, working out a few kinks but once we get rolling fully and deeper into the season I believe we'll be full throttle without any breaks.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“I've been very happy with the way I’ve personally played. Couldn't have asked for a better O-line and teammates overall.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“Our team has played very well. Especially when we're all clicking and rolling together then it's game over.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“I believe our team can work on starting the game off harder than we normally do. We were struggling with letting the other team throw punches first but instead we need to work on going out and making a statement.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“I believe some keys for our team would be to stay a family and stay connected with each other. Another thing would be to understand our assignments and to just play the game we grew up doing.”

..............................................
Q&A with Dunkerton tight end Dalton Weepie
How has everything with the football season been going so far?
“Pretty good. We have a winning record, and we are fighting for a shot to make it to the playoffs.”

Have you been pleased with how you have played this season?
“Yes, I’m leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and I’m 2nd on the team in tackles. My coaches have put me in a spot to succeed and I just have to go out and do it. It also helps when you have a good connection with your QB.”

How do you feel your team has played?
“This year has had a lot of ups and downs. We’ve had a lot of injuries and things have not gone our way. But over time we’ve been getting better at finding a way to win.”

What do you feel your team can improve on?
“We could improve our mentality. When we make mistakes, we have to forget about it, and move on to the next play. We can’t let that one play affect the rest of the game.”

What are the keys for your team being successful going forward?
“We have to stay focused. We can’t get too high after a win or too low after a loss. If we stay focused the rest of the season anything can happen.”

Well bad news, good news

I've been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia). It's unrelated with my last brush.

The good news, since around 2000, treatment for it has improved greatly. 95% survive 5 years after diagnosis. My oncologist said given that I'm in very good physical condition that I'm as close to 100% as you can be. We also caught it early. A quote from my oncologist..."if you have to have leukemia, this is the one you want."

I'll have to take a pill everyday, perhaps for the rest of my life. It's chemo but it's targeted chemo meaning FAR fewer side effects.

My doctor and I both believe that I will die an old man and I don't have to quit working or my exercise regimen.

My goal is to reach total remission (hematologic, cytogenic, molecular) on the meds and then enter a trial where you stop the meds and monitor the above. If you can remain leukemia free, you're "cured."
