Wouldn’t surprise me if this is what people think. VM is the top dog. They should be heavily favored. WB is the underdog, nothing to lose. Everyone expects them to lose. IF WB can get healthy then I think anything can happen.
I think it will be a VM WS title game. Not sure about that one but I put VM by 14 and WS by at least 21 in the semis.
WB has (2) kids who on its varsity roster from the IC school district. Regina probably has 95%+ of its kids from the IC school district on its roster.
End of story.

Let's return to regular programming without you trolling another post to make it about WB/Regina/IC.
If you'd like to attend the game, I'll gladly pay your entry fee. I always cheer for the other teams in our district when they're doing well.
For now, I've greater things to worry about. My daughter just asked me to help her with a physics project that I know nothing about. As a dad I'm going to do my best because kids only ask you to help them so much once they hit the teen years.

I think your missing the point he’s making. Everyone on this board hates to see these posts turn into a WB vs Regina hijacked thread. Pinehawk continues to most of the time pour the gasoline on the fire and not let stuff die. The guy clearly hates WB, and I sometime read his posts as he hates the kids too at WB. I’m a WB guy, I’ve had my issues with Regina. But I respect the hell out of what they accomplished during Cooks years. I’ve let all the stuff that I know has gone on, go. I’m over it. I don’t put any of my dislike for Regina on the kids. Pinehawk can’t get over his hate for WB, he will always look for the opportunity to stir the pot on here when he can. Anyways on to the Dome and Van Meter. Go Bears!

Totally agree with Ghost (I never do) as Van Meter could get some transfers from WDM Valley, Waukee or even ADM.
Heck, ADM got a few transfers over time that really helped them in different sports.

However, schools like West Sioux, CLGLR, and West Lyon dispell the theory. Harlan as well.
Smaller schools nearer to metropolitan areas can certainly have an advantage. "Bedroom Communities"

ADMs world will change soon in athletics. I've heard the freeloaders who flocked there for tax abatement has caused an explosion in enrollment at the lower levels which is in the pipeline. They will soon be 4A too.
Not likely they will get lucky like Carlisle did this year.
Sometimes you can be so far out in the sticks there is nothing else to do.....that works for Harlan.

You are missing the point.....it isn't just an open enrollment situation. The 2022 Des Moines Metro Area population is 559,000. Do you begin to think the people who live in VM work in VM there? No. People flock to a metro area for the jobs and often decide to live in the surbs and surrounding small communities and avoid the issues of living in the city itself. The wealth and growth in those communities creates a big advantage over their rural (same size) counterparts.
The failure some people have to face reality. At the end of the day hard work and dedication have to happen BUT.... You can't polish a turd.
It is reality, but who has an answer? SES multiplier? You'd put DSM North in 1A at that rate. Not all is fair and equal, in anything. Some do have big advantages, and that's exactly why they moved there with their children to provide those opportunities for them.
How does a Boyden Hull consistently be good when dealing with open enrollment or Western/Unity on their door step? Their facilities aren't that spectacular, their programs are.
There are plenty of rural communities facing the same problems having incredible success. It takes good people investing in the children in those towns to turn everything around.

Exactly. It takes good coaches and community support. Winning helps complete that cycle.
Probably just a rumor, but heard couple of WB players will be game time decisions. I believe Henson is one of them. Hopefully they continue to heal the next 36hrs. Would like to see as close to full strength WB team take on Van Meter. Again, I’m not close to the program as Blame is.
No clue if Butch will coach. But I know the familiar names on his staff. They have PLENTY of experience playing in the dome. Couple of State titles on the staff
Listening to the last game he coached from the booth. He was in there alone, guessing to not compromise immune system. Prayers for him and their injured players as well as any other injuries for other teams. Hate to see injuries this late in the playoffs especially for seniors and those who will be moving on and continuing to play at the next level.
Is butch coaching? I got scorched in the other thread for not knowing about his cancer, but is he coaching and any impact on the team of he's not? Have the other coaches been to the dome? I know it's been a while since they made it.
Gotcha. I personally place a premium on being there before. VM has the routine down. Good luck to WB.

Butch being present is a big boost for the Bears. Hopefully he is kicking cancers a** like he does everything else. Looking forward to a great game. Knowing the routines of dome games is a benefit. Lots of small things go into it.
These programs have a large area in their districts to collect open enrollment from.
Now that the game is over a couple of quick questions. Looking at the states data for this year it shows the following for Van Meter
Open enrollment out 43.4........not sure what .4 of a student is but it's the state.
Open enrollment IN 179. I see on the Van Meter site that OE is closed. Are these kids that were existing when it was closed in 2017 or are they siblings of students that were OE when it closed? Somewhat of a legacy for a family?
Just trying to understand that number with a closed OE system. It would also indicate that not every kid lives in the district. Gone to the school the entire time but not necessarily in the district?
Yes, from what I've read, Van Meter has OE closed for grades 1-12. Students can still be admitted via OE for the incoming kindergarten class only. Most likely this is done to help keep the numbers in each grade level fairly consistent. So I'm guessing, a lot of those 179 OE in would be from kindergarteners being admitted the last 7 years or from students who were admitted most likely in elementary school before OE was closed for grades 1-12.
One more yes would be that siblings of students who are approved for OE will then also be allowed to OE in. Again, this is most likely a result of an older sibling already being approved for OE in, so then the younger sibling is approved as well.
So again based on what I've seen and read, the Van Meter players on this year's roster have been there for 4 years or more or if they are new this year, that is because the family moved into the district.
I can remember an older brother playing for Van Meter a few years ago, so maybe.
