Hurricane Helene

I've looked up through the eye of a decent hurricane when I lived in Lakeland, FL and had almost no damage. However, some that missed me fcked my shit up. It's weird.

Long as it doesn’t fvck up anything too bad im good. I already know I won’t have power till
Sunday or Monday. I’m ok with that.
Get you a Pecron…

Watching the radar I can see some black imaging circling around. Is THAT the dry air?

TIA and I really do appreciate you sharing your knowledge on these things.

Unfortunately it has kicked almost all the dry air out and is really starting to strengthen. Only thing holding it back now is that it’s only a few more hours until it is on land.

I’m just on my phone at the minute but on satellite images a few hours ago you could really see the dry air. When it looks lopsided and the clouds are a lot warmer in a portion near the center that means there’s dry air intrusion.

As for on radar, yeah the areas of no precip near the center is usually dry air. You can see the last remaining dry air rotating around the southern portion of the eye right now

Well, within about one to 3 miles of our Port Charlotte home, there have been three tornadoes, and about 3 miles out in the bay. There’s been a water spout. I have a damage scout driving by tomorrow morning.

The dirty side of a hurricane sucks donkey balls

I’ve become a lithium solar guru lately. That all-in-one power station is a pretty good unit for a very reasonable price. But the best bang for the buck is one of these:
The beauty of ^^this^^ battery is they send another one for free if you give them a good review on Amazon. I couldn’t believe it but they send instructions in their package of brochures on how to get an extra battery. Plus ordering subsequent batteries are 50% off. I’ve got 3 of them in my RV = 3,840 wh for less than $250.
Unreal when you consider a Battleborn 12.8 volt 100 ah (1,280 wh) battery is $950.

You sound like an infomercial. Do I type in @HONKifUvCOACHED4BAMA at checkout to get 10% off?

4 am I’m Athens and we are really starting to get some heavy rain and wind. Looks like Helene’s wobble to the east is going to put us right in line for the remnants of the eye to pass over us

What charger is required for these batteries. Considering going lithium batteries too.
There are many methods to charge liFePO4 (LFP) batteries (grid, solar, generator, alternator, wind turbine…), so not knowing your application i can tell you the basics. Power stations like that Pecron have built-in chargers, unlike that “mini” battery that don’t.
Most chargers sold in stores accommodate LFPs but not all. They charge at 14.6 volts and they soak it up fast-much faster than lead acid batteries. The higher the amperage charger, the faster it charges.
Solar charging comes in many varieties also and is managed by an MPPT charger. Again, your application can vary from needing a few panels powering a mini split AC unit to an entire off-grid system.
Alternator charging can be done with a dc-to-dc charger or nothing but straight wire from the alternator. Again, applications vary.
So whatever you’re interested in, lemme know.

Can you program ringtones into it or does it load up a MOD APK virus pack? That seems important these days

Well surprisingly she took more of a NNE path instead of a NNW path after landfall. Wind wise I suspect she was a pretty big dud for much of northern GA. Western SC/NC and east GA took it on the chin probably more than they expected to.

It's been interesting in the Charlotte area

European model was close to spot on. For some reason, it always is the most accurate for most weather systems

I’ve been following the models for 20 or more years now, and statistically it’s always been the most accurate. It takes its lumps on occasion, but in general it is the best. The others are probably closer to it now than they were 10-20 years ago, but it’s been king for a while.

GFS actually did better overall from beginning to end on this one. Early on, Euro had a weaker circulation and was further to the west. It started coming into line with GFS about 3 days out, and then became the better one.

But, Euro has definitely been the better one for a couple of decades.

Both models are showing storm development in the Gulf by next weekend, possibly headed to the central Gulf coast.
