Never seen this before.

The IHSAA has decided to postpone Friday’s Championship Football games until Monday November 23. The decision was made based upon the National Weather Service forecast and the winter storm warning that has been issued for tomorrow.

Monday’s games will follow the same schedule. The welfare of teams traveling home on Friday in conjunction with the safety of fans traveling contributed to the decision.

Tickets sold for Friday’s games will be honored on Monday.

Only time I ever saw it was back in 1991 in Minnesota. ALL round of 16 games(MN section finals) were postponed due to the infamous Halloween blizzard and as a result all games from that round on were played in indoor facilities with the entire State tournament taking place in the Metronome The storm also caused the ENTIRE state tournament to be played a week later the scheduled

Smart thing to do, good decision. But dammit all, I was driving over from Omaha for it. Haven't missed a Dowling title game since my first in 2000. Not particularly happy with Mother Nature.

I'm sure this is just purely coincidental, but either way, I'll just leave this here...

Yeah, I'm not from Omaha. Just here for law school. Although, I did have a buddy during high school who lived in Earlham. That was a shitty commute to school each day.

Sure, because Omaha doesn't have seven Catholic schools to play football at.

As I said, I am sure it's purely coincidental, I just found it ironic and comical that he said that shortly after I had seen that tweet.

I don't think that the IHSAA should of cancelled the football games for today because people have traveled in far worse weather conditions for basketball games and for wrestling meets. The game is indoors and people can stay at a hotel if needed. The only reason I would cancel the games is if the City of Cedar Falls or the State of Iowa declared a travel ban due to the weather. Plus, most professional games are postponed until after the heavy snowfall occurs and not before it happens.

Just about every road between Des Moines and Cedar Falls has been listed as "Travel Not Advised" by the Iowa DoT. If the professionals are saying don't travel, I think it best to heed their warning. Not quite sure why you think it necessary to risk lives for a high school football game.

I live in Waverly, a stone's throw from Cedar Falls. I know this from last night, the IHSAA made the right choice. I wouldn't have driven 12 miles to see football last night, it sucked enough driving 12 blocks.

I highly doubt anyone has traveled to a winter sports event in conditions worse( or even similar) than last night. The IHSAA or any AD in the regular season would take one look at a forecast for 6-12 inches of blowing snow and cancel all games for that day.
