2018 Rule Changes are out

Got an email from the IHSAA about this today. No real big changes this year. The below comments are not word for word, just the express version.

#1. An improperly equipped player will be removed for one down. No longer a yardage penalty. As I read it, it also includes not wearing equipment properly. The most likely one is knee pads. Not really sure if this includes mouthguards or not, but I presume it does. If so, that would be the most likely.

#2 Clarifications about a defenseless player. Namely a QB is not considered a defenseless player after a pass until the pass is ended.

#3 Signal change for kick infractions. So white hats and PA guys are the only ones that care.

#4 Kick penalty added to avoid re-kicks (and the injuries that come in the kicking game). All remaining penalty administration remains, but the new rule on fouls on the kicking team, the other team can simply add 5 yards on to the end of the down.
