Benton Community @ West Delaware--West Delaware rolls--42-6

Bondurant-Farrar @ Norwalk--Norwalk is tested early but wins 28-13

Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes--A rematch of week one---More of the same--DC-G wins 37-12

Chariton @ Gilbert--Gilbert has only played one top tier team this year and lost big--It doesn't matter in round one--Gilbert 42-14

Clear Creek - Amana @ Maquoketa--Maquoketa gets it done at home, but barely. Maquoketa wins in OT 27-20

Creston @ Harlan --Harlan put up 59 on Creston in week 7. Harlan wins--49-12

Glenwood @ Carroll--Neither team can be happy about the 2-3 match-up--This is the game of the night in 3A--Carroll receives a late turnover? Carroll 28-27

Humboldt @ Webster City--This is not good if you like Humboldt. WC goes to 10-0. Webster City 35-12

Solon @ Washington--Solon finds a way!--Solon 35-29

Spencer @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton--Maybe Spencer didn't show all of their cards a few day ago? Sergeant Bluff-Luton holds on 16-7

Wahlert @ Assumption--A week 6 rematch. Assumption has too much fire power. Assumption rolls 42-13

Waverly Shell-Rock @ Xavier--No one wanted Waverly Shell-Rock in round one. Xavier can handle them. Xavier wins 32-20

Algona @ Ballard Algona had a really bad finish to the season
Benton Community @ West Delaware WD is my pick to go to the dome
Bondurant-Farrar @ Norwalk Norwalk will be too much in this one
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Heelan It will be close early but Heelan rolls in 2nd half
Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes DCG here but this is probably where it ends
Chariton @ Gilbert This is my upset special
Clear Creek-Amana @ Maquoketa Good game but Maquoketa finds a way to win
Creston @ Harlan Harlan wins big
Decorah @ Independence Indy's great season will continue
Fairfield @ Pella Pella destroys Fairfield by a lot
Glenwood @ Carroll Terrible first round match-up for Carroll
Humboldt @ Webster City Rivalry game here, but Webster City has too much power
Solon @ Washington This will be a great game that will come down to the end so I will take the home team here
Spencer @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton Big Blow-out Alert!!!
Wahlert @ Assumption The Knights Roll
Waverly-Shell Rock @ Xavier Interesting match-up most years, but W-SR is down this year.

Algona @ Ballard- Ballard

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Heelan- Heelan
Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes- DCG

Harlan

Glenwood

Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Assumption

Algona @ Ballard - Algona really limped to the finish line this season. Don't see them moving on.
Benton Community @ West Delaware - Don't see Benton being able to deal with WD's power and speed.
Bondurant-Farrar @ Norwalk - Norwalk will be a tough out. I see them easily winning this game.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Heelan - Interesting rematch. Heelan scored a bunch the first time these teams met, probably will again.
Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes - Upset brewing here. Carlisle's running game can chew up clock and keep DCG's potent offense off the field. Should be a close, tightly contested game.
Chariton @ Gilbert - Chariton can score some points, but have trouble stopping teams. Gilbert should be able to run the ball effectively and pull away in the second half.
Clear Creek-Amana @ Maquoketa - Should be another hotly contested game. CCA closed the season by thumping Fairfield, so playing well. But, will go with the home team in this one.
Creston @ Harlan - The scoreboard will probably be lit up in this one. Harlan should win comfortably though.
Decorah @ Independence - Indee has had a stellar year. Decorah has been up and down. I am picking Indee to win, but would not be surprised to see Decorah with the upset. Just a hunch.
Fairfield @ Pella - Another Dutch blowout. This one shouldn't be close.
Glenwood @ Carroll - Great, great matchup. Can Glenwood stop the Carroll rushing attack? Can Carroll contain Glenwood's do everything QB? Should be a great game. Will go with the visitors.
Humboldt @ Webster City - WC too strong for Humboldt.
Solon @ Washington - Wash. dominated the line of scrimmage in the first matchup and that was with Solon's regular starters. Solon will have to make some adjustments to have a different outcome. I'll go with Washington again.
Spencer @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton - Should be the same outcome as a few days ago.
Wahlert @ Assumption - Last I heard Wahlert was on their 23rd string QB. Injuries have killed them this year. Assumption should roll.
Waverly-Shell Rock @ Xavier - Xavier was not blessed to get matched up with arguably the best 4th seed out there. But, Xavier if very good this year and will be too much for WSR to handle.

Algona @ Ballard: BALLARD
Benton Community @ West Delaware: WEST DELAWARE
Bondurant-Farrar @ Norwalk: NORWALK
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Heelan: HEELAN
Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes: DALLAS CENTER-GRIMES

Algona @ Ballard — Tough last couple of weeks for Algona
Benton Community @ West Delaware — West Delaware is solid
Bondurant-Farrar @ Norwalk — Close at half
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Heelan — Hard to win a rematch in football
Carlisle @ Dallas Center-Grimes — Again, hard to win a rematch, but closer this time
Chariton @ Gilbert — One of closest 1 vs. 4 games
Clear Creek-Amana @
Maquoketa — CCA has good build for playoffs
Creston @ Harlan — Stupid rematches
Decorah @ Independence — Indy almost beat West Delaware so can't pick against tem
Fairfield @ Pella — Tough draw, Trojans
Glenwood @ Carroll — Maybe best game of the day in 3A
Humboldt @ Webster City — Another rematch might be closer but same winner
Solon @ Washington — So many rematches. Might be closest of the group though.
Spencer @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton — Rematch of the last week of the season, dumb.
Wahlert @ Assumption — Rematch central.
Waverly-Shell Rock @ Xavier — This one is kinda fun, maybe an upset watch but nah.

All home games but one, that's kinda boring. I do think there will be some good games though. Seven rematches out of 16 games though. I personally would rather have them just travel.

said it on the other side would love to see harlan "RAM" it down Creston to shut their coach up but I just don't see it happening.

Glenwood and Carroll is tough. Don't think there are many here from the west side of the state but Carroll is pretty good. The blowout from Harlan looked like Harlan just got on them quick and if they did it over it would be much closer. I think the "RAMS" will prevail by a TD

Round Two??????

gonna give some advice here to any team that is going to go against the stat machine that is running crazy in creston.....

DO NOT HAVE YOUR ENDS PLAY 7 TECHNIQUE against lineman that weight 100 pounds more than yours. Here's what you do as the NFL found out....

Play 8 technique on the outside and force the lineman down....have your CB or OLB crash the outside.....force 24 to make a decision early....Harlan tried to play man up as has everyone else....and it don't work...period...hence why we no longer see the wildcat in the nfl.....it was a timing thing and will be....force them to make a decision early by crashing him...that is all.
speed on the outside beats this every time and if you want to man up against guys bigger than you then you will lose....

I'm confused. Why do you think the Creston coach needs to be "shut up" as you put it?

wonder what happen to harlan., they seem to have forgotten to play football....i read in post game comments from harlan,s coach bladt. he stated in the first meeting , where harlan won, he saw things postitive from crestons offense, and wonder why they did not do it all the time...the 2nd game, creston did what bladt wonder why they did not do first time...and the result resulted in a creston win...creston might give pella a game...crestons offensive line is as big as college,s

Not sure what bladt said and didn't see it. here's what I did see...old school mentality of me against you and baddest wins only goes so far. you can't play heads up technique the entire game when you are outweighed by 100 - 120 pounds and more in some cases. I see a 4 - 3 defense going against guys that are massive and 2, 5 and 8 techniques only get you so far if at all when are that much smaller - use what you have your quicknes. eventually kids will tire out especially when you only have one or two guys coming in every series or so. I saw a line that was dominant and when you play a 4 - 3 and your tackles are getting blown off the line 5 - 8 yards your mike backer has no shot...especially when he plays head up. typical 4 - 3 has mike shade to one side or the other and read first the center and then secondary read. outside backers were stuck 5 - 6 yards deep and have couldn't shed blocks and frankly have no clue if the backers know how to shed...to much heads down hit head to head with no handwork or extension.....sorry to rant but it was a dominating performance by the Creston O Line. Beware next year not of Schiltz but that offensive line they are all back. I could have put my 11 year old behind that line on friday night and he would have gotten 250. they are rolling right now and i know pella is good but creston line looked really, really good. also, huelett is very good defensive end and could possibly be up there with the best d ends in the state. Tarney got hit pretty hard on one play by huelett and it looked like the harlan tight end just ran right around him and the fullback did the same. It appeared that they were scared to death of huelett in the second half

as I said in previous post you cannot play read heads up against them the entire game if event 20% of the time. if you can't play heads up techniques then you better play solid gap responsibility....and twist the outside to force them to make a decision.

so moral to this long, long story.....you against me doesn't work...period....you have to stunt, change fronts and have good technique...all of which harlan did not do.

The Pella D will be too fast for the fat boys from creston

That is funny....but don't get too cocky just yet....

I was at Pella against Norwalk and having seen Creston three times - twice against Harlan and once against Glenwood and Pella once this will be close if Pella doesn't score early. Pella scores early and gets up then they will coast. If it's close Pella still wins but it won't be a blow out.

What I remember from Pella against Norwalk, Pellas linebackers will struggle only because again I don't see them getting off blocks that easily. Hint hint.....it's relatively easy to read what creston does....their line schemes are very, very simple.

I see pella winning and Clayberg having a big game. I am interested in the DE 55 from Creston and what he will be able to do. He is there best all around player contrary to what you will hear elsewhere. good solid fundamentals and I think he could give clayberg fits.

I wouldn't look at DCG / Creston or DCG / pella comparisons. late in the season and coaching is going to be the key in this one....

Clayberg will have a big night because crestons defense is just not that good.....only saying that because they have given up big nights and again if pella can do something against that line they will walk easily. it's going to be the OLine of Creston against the front 7 of Pella.....whoever wins that will win.

I've seen both teams play. I feel Creston's offense will do things that Pella doesn't like and may end up with a nice statistical night. That being said--I think barring turnovers, Pella will score every time they have the ball. I'm predicting 48-28 in favor of Pella.

Bladt knows that at this point in the season he cannot change what he has been coaching the players since day 1. Not to mention, I would guess that a traditional power like Harlan has been teaching this defense for years.

If Harlan has practiced and played a head up, 2 gap front all season then changing the techniques would result in far more issues than getting worked by a bigger line. A better approach would be to rotate more players that have practiced the same scheme all year. Switching to a gap control front with 10+ weeks of two gapping would result in some big time breakdowns when a kid doesn't play his shade. Lastly, if Harlan plays that front then they should be thankful that they did not play Pella because I've seen their Tight Slot and Wing looks. They would reach Harlan's 5s/8s (or fold them), seal (or pin) their backers and it would be off to the races. Not to mention what they can do with motion. A 43 is a great front but when the QB can run then you better have some safeties that enjoy partying too.

Huelett is a good player. I believe he has started Varsity since his sophomore season. I still believe that Creston goes as their rb goes. Schiltz is a fantastic rb and behind that big o line he is even more dangerous. Schiltz is that team. Shut him down or contain him they are done.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Webster City- WEBSTER CITY
Carroll @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton- SERGEANT BLUFF-LUTON
Creston @ Pella- PELLA

Maquoketa @ Assumption, Davenport- DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION
Norwalk @ Gilbert- NORWALK
Solon @ West Delaware, Manchester- WEST DELAWARE

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley @ Webster City--The long drive and the single wing offense are too much to overcome with the short week for B-H/RV. Webster City wins 35-22

Carroll @ Sergeant Bluff-Luton--Carroll is playing very well as of late-Tigers go on the road and get huge win. Carroll 30-27

Creston @ Pella--All of the talk about the huge line of Creston, fires up Pella. Pella cruises 35-6

Dallas Center-Grimes @ Ballard--DC-G controls the game-Ballard's schedule is weak. Dallas Center-Grimes wins 28-0

Decorah @ Xavier--Xavier is battle tested for sure. Decorah had a good year after starting 0-3. Xavier wins 28-7

Maquoketa @ Assumption--A nice year for Maquoketa comes to an end early Monday night. Assumption 48-14

Norwalk @ Gilbert--Norwalk goes into hostile Gilbert and advances to elite 8. Tigers strength of schedule is a question mark and it matters in round 2. Norwalk 28-6

Solon @ West Delaware--The 3A field is happy one of these teams is eliminated. West Delaware stays perfect 20-7
