Western-Van Meter

Have no knowledge of Van Meter & this board seems pretty quiet in their regard.
(Awful time for QuickStats to be down!)
Other than the fact that they do lot of their scoring through the air, can anyone give me a team preview?

Western has been playing well in post-season.
Team speed is definitely their best asset on both sides of the ball. They were able to put Hinton's QB on his back a lot & could play soft coverage once they had the lead.
Luckily, they've avoided any injuries so far as well.

Van Meter is a very well rounded team. Their QB Trent is a very talented kid, one of the few players who can turn a lame duck play into a TD and has a pretty good supporting cast around at RB and some solid receivers. Their D isn't a shut 'em down type D but they get the job done and do a very good job slowing down explosive O's as shown in their wins over Madrid and SCC.

Western will be tough to beat in this one. Their team speed is impressive. Probably the best team speed left in the field. Good QB with excellent quick receivers. I'm taking Western by 10+

Probably along the lines of I can't believe one of our teams is going to be considered the state runner up.

That's awesome that the coaches were that honest with you...I'm sure when they get the trophy they will make sure to put "Not the Actual Runner-Up" on the trophy so everyone knows that. I'm glad you brought that to everyone's attention and great job with getting the coaches insight.

Not uncommon for western iowa schools to be underestimated.

I'm a numbers guy, if you only want to look at DNH vs the other 2 here you go. Van Meter is easy, Van Meter beat Panora 28-14, DNH beat Panora 48-7. Western beat Pocahontas 28-7 same as Saint Ansgar, DNH beat Saint Ansgar 28-14. A little bit of a reach I agree. If BC Moore had either team from the west playing teams from the east, east teams would be at least 10 point favorites over Western and 15+ point favorites of Van Meter. I understand they play on the field, but there you go. Feel free to give me a reason why either west team would have a chance against either east team.

I'm guessing West Branch and Saint Ansgar would both be favored over those 2 teams as well. Nothing against them, don't take it personal, we just have a screwed up system.

Haven't seen any of them play so can't argue against that logic. I will say Western is loaded with some of the best athletes in the state year in and year out but whether they have transformed into championship quality football players of that level yet I'm not sure. Seems like it on highlights. Can't speak for Van Meter.

My take:
As a Western fan, I hope that:
1. We keep winning & 2. None of the BB players get hurt.
