Auburn lost one of its biggest fans Saturdays A.M. He graduated from Auburn 60 years ago. Benard Domning was a good man and I am proud to say he was my friend.
I went to the hospice Friday and he was being fed morphine for pain. He was able to open one eye, smile and faintly whisper (barely audible) "War Eagle". It told me that he at least recognized me. He was surrounded by his four children, and some spouses, as he died. His only daughter was holding his hand. I cannot think of a better way to go.
If you happen to think that you hear a booming War Eagle from the sky above, you will know who it is.
