DSM took down their rankings?? Was just there Monday but is no longer anywhere to be found on their high school sports page.

Here's the weekly compilations of the Register, Gazette, Radio Iowa, and AP. Enjoy!

Everybody agrees on the top 5 in 5A, except for the exact order.

Van Meter gets back up after that Williamsburg loss ... well, except for the Gazette (since they don't have Williamsburg at 1 in 2A, I guess they're counting that loss more against VM, ha ha).

The Gazzette is worthless for rankings, they do 0 research. They have their homer favorites in all classes but honestly they have no idea about the quality of teams and the competition of who those teams play. It is basically 3 guys opinion, I think some of the other polls are better because they get coaches imput.

I saw at the bottom of the Register article, it is just 1 guy who does their ranking. Not sure how many vote on the AP but 1 guy I like that contributes to that, is Matt Coss. He seems tuned in to high school sports pretty well. Granted, he is in the far eastern part of the state, but I think he does a good job with high school sports.

It’s okay to be critical of the Gazette rankings (I know they have 6 guys who vote, but I have no idea how much attention each of them pays), but it’s kind of funny to accuse them of “homer favorites.”

They‘re the only ones who don’t have hometown Xavier at 2 in 4A, putting Waverly-Shell Rock above them and having the Saints tied with Indianola (which is as low as 6 on other polls). They’re the only ones who don’t have Williamsburg on top in 2A, which is certainly a credible choice given Central Lyon and OABCIG in that class, but the Raiders trounced a Regina team that’s now getting some votes and ended Van Meter’s long win streak - and to the point, the Gazette considers Williamsburg in their reading area. They also have North Linn lower than everybody else does in A.

I have no problem with hating on the Gazette, but I wouldn’t say “homerism“ is much of an issue with their rankings.

Being in the Des Moines metro, am quite jealous of the coverage the Gazette gives to preps sports. Appears they have multiple people out on Friday nights at various locations. Meanwhile, The Register has cut resources down to basically just one person but try to maintain statewide coverage.

Register’s “statewide” coverage usually ends up limited to the westside of the metro from the Valley Stadium press box.

Composite rankings for 5A, again this is the most accurate because it has the most data points.

I understand part of the reasoning why it doesn't happen. But it would be nice if all 4 of these polls combined themselves into a "media" poll.

It would also be nice if more people voted in the AP and Radio Iowa polls.

If only you could watch FNL now - They've been moving it around 9.2, 9.3 which I guess is ok if you have a cable system, but for those streaming it can be difficult to find. When you have such a good product, why hide it?

Not being familiar with the west coast of IA, but just how good is SC East….#7 good for 5A?

I was wondering if any district race is going to be competative other than District 4 and 5. Others may have a couple teams but I find those 2 districts as the most intriguing in 1A. Also wondering if either one of those districts will get to be a #1 seed in a pod come playoff time?

I think you are spot on for the depth of 1a in district 4 and 5. I think you can add district 3 to that conversation also.

looks like they are a fairly good passing team...can they contend with the remainder of the state,s elite....personally..i would say no....see how they do friday night against sargent bluff..if they dominate them...then i might change my mind
