State Lane Assignments

I always get confused on how lane assignments are made at state for events with no preliminaries (aka timed finals)

Is the are a "fast heat" per se? Or are the runners/teams spread over the 3 heats in "snake" fashion?

Does this info live somewhere in the IHSAA archives?

Otherwise, sections against time are seeded in 3 heets progressivley getting faster (unless coaches start switching kids around) 1-8 seeds in the 3rd section, 9-16 in the 2nd section and 17-24 in the first section.

For three-heat finals (400, 400 Hurdles, 4x200, 1600 Med):
Heat 1: Teams ranked #17-#24
Heat 2: #9-#16
Heat 3: #1-#8

For two-heat finals (800, 4x800):
Heat 1: #13-#24
Heat 2: #1-#12

Competitors are ranked using district performance.
