Siouxland Conference

I would have to say the best team to knock off Western, might be West Lyon, they are big, strong, physical and deep. Their halfcourt offense is a question mark, but if they can get scoring out of anyone besides Heyer and Meyer, it will make them that much more difficult.

They are second in the conference in Points Per Game at 69.1. Doesn't necessarily mean they're half-court offense is great, but they must be doing something right.

They are a big athletic team, that love to pressure and get out to run. Transition and run outs are what make them good. All I was saying is that if they are forced to play in the half court they struggle. Look at the first time vs Rock Valley. RV slowed the tempo, didnt turn it into a full court game, made them play in the half court. Result- RV win 48-37.

I think Western is obviously the favorite, but Western also doesn't have the inside game that they've had in the past. They're loaded with experienced guard play, but they aren't unbeatable. Western hasn't been playing tough competition the last 7 games although Sioux Falls Christian will be a nice warmup for the tournament. And should we be so quick to rule Poky out from giving District 1 a challenge? I know they don't have the best competition in their conference, but they did take Spirit Lake into OT on the road. The same Spirit Lake that beat Western earlier in the season. I'm not saying that means Poky is gonna do anything and BC Moore would agree but with this brutal substate and who knows what will go down. There are no free games after the opening round and EVERY team needs to show up ready to play!

I think Sioux City Heelan and St. Thomas Moore who was the #2 ranked team in class A of South Dakota are both pretty tough competition Western has played recently. Sioux Falls Christian will also give them a tough game. Western has played a tougher schedule than anyone they will see in districts or substate so I don't think that will be an issue. That doesn't mean they can't get knocked off though.

Remaining Schedule

Merley hit five 3s last night against Central Lyon, I think he'll be OK Friday night. IF Sheldon brings the same energy they did last time they'll win by 15. It will be close, but I just don't see WL having an answer for sheldon's inside game. Sheldon by 5. PS. this corner of the state will still run through WC, and I don't see any of the Siouxland 2A teams at the same level as the Wolfpack right now.
Great game! Two evenly matched teams really. WL hit some 3s early to get momentum, but then that went away/couldn't hit from behind arc. WL did manage to get Sheldon bigs in some foul trouble, but then went away/couldn't get either one to pick up 4th. Give Boerhave and Van Marel credit for playing smart with 3 fouls for much of second half. Biggest play of game--end of third quarter, WL down two trying to run out clock and go up one or tied at quarter, Sheldon steal and length of court for layup--orabs up 4. A rematch of these two teams would be fun, clearly the 2 best in the Siouxland. Ps. Look out for Boyden Hull, records are deceiving!

Last night was another great night of Siouxland Conference basketball. Listened to the BH game...BH is heating up at the right time and SC is spiraling down hill fast losing 3 in a row. How do you blow a 10 point 4th quarter lead with 4:00 to go....turnovers!

The Sheldon WL game sounded like a great title matchup and the kind of game you want to have right before the post season!

Was surprised to see Sheldon beat WL at WL. Anyone know why it was so low scoring?? 53-51?!? Attended the BH SC game. Again a great atmosphere with one of the conferences smaller gymnasiums. Place was loud at the end. Very PHYSICAL low scoring game till halfway through the 3rd. At the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th the Arends kid pretty much went on his own 10-0 something run with 2 fouls on 3 point shots and a couple layups. Yes BH was down 10 with about 3:30-4:00 to go and began their press and SC just struggled against it. Even if they beat the press they were rushed and threw some away. BH chipped away and got it down to 1. Rens kid made both to go up 1. Then Sioux center drew up the perfect play, but their big kid mis handled it and went out a bounds. No different than when an NFL receiver is so wide open that they start running before catching it completely. Felt bad for him. Rens kid made 2 more free throws to go up 3 and the Arends kid missed a LONG range 3 that looked on line but wasn't enougH. BH finished game on 15-2 run. Give BH credit they never quit and made CLUTCH free throws at the end. Sioux center should've won after making their run and going up 10. Hoping they can forget this game and start fresh in tournament time cuz I think they are pretty good when clicking on all cylinders. Again, BH seems to really bring it in big games, but don't count out GLR and CL. They both have proven to be a tough matchup inside for BH. BH beat WL once, SC once, RV twice, and could've easily beaten one if not both against Sheldon. Pretty crazy year in a Siouxland yet again.

WL vs Sheldon two great teams, great defenses led to "low scoring" game. Sheldon deserved the title. Won the games they needed to. Congrats.

Ask Okoboji about blowing leads. They were up 9 on GLR with 1:23 left on Tuesday night. GLR tied it and eventually won in OT
