So the 5A semifinals shook out just the way it was forecasted to, all CIML. The gradual competitive decline of the East Coast (the West hasn’t been a factor) is now complete. Even though it was nice to see teams representing different geographic regions with the prior PO structure, this new format is superior in attempting to get the best 4 teams in the semifinals…..as it should. So those on the East side of the state had better do some off season soul searching and figure out how to be competitive again. The last state champion from outside of the DSM was 2009.

As opposed to the "money" argument many provide for the difference in East vs. West, I see more of a schematic difference between the two. All in the CIML, even Centennial, run a version of the 11 Personnel Spread offense. Eastern teams appear stuck in the "Option" or "Read Option" style. IMO, Spread is easier to continually plug and play year after year with the types of players you have.

Although the financial disparities certainly do have some effect, I agree it doesn’t tell the entire story. Perhaps the offensive schemes are a byproduct of superior coaching coming from the CIML.

Maybe the East Coast could consider trying the Wing-T offense.
Just a thought.
