We have our first "upset" of the night. During the regular season, Bishop Heelan beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton by 21 on two separate occasions.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton got the last laugh, however, as they defeat Bishop Heelan 50-48 tonight in LeMars.

SBL will face the winner of the LeMars/Storm Lake game coming up. LeMars has beaten Storm Lake this season by 40 and 37, so hopefully it doesn't take a same track as the first game of the night.

The #5 team in the final Class 3A poll falls in the first round as #9 Spirit Lake defeats #5 MOC-FV 74-66 in overtime tonight.

Winner will play the winner of Algona/Spencer.

That winner will play either #6 Le Mars or Storm Lake in substate.

What a shame this was a first round game.

Three Lakes conference schools still alive. Pretty impressive season for the conference.

Plus Western Christian as a favorite to make state and possibly win in 2A. One of the deepest years for the Lakes Conference in many years that is for sure.

Assumption won 56-38 over Maquoketa.

Good thing Assumption was a much better team than Maquoketa. I counted nearly 40 fouls in the game. 24 or 25 on Assumption. Including 1 technical when Assumption was up 50-35. Smith-Larsson was called for a charge when he was in the air and the Maquoketa player jumped underneath the basket. Assumption coach got a T for yelling "He was in the air" at the referee. Nothing derogatory and he was never warned for anything during the game prior to that. It was his first technical of the season. Players who have never had foul trouble all season for Assumption found themselves in foul trouble... Grenier, Wadsager, and Mollenbeck rarely get called for more than 2 fouls in a game and they all found themselves in foul trouble most of the game.
