Quarter pairings

I get a chuckle about this every year. Folks.. this is about geographic representation and not about having the best 4 teams in the dome.

It would be impossible for the state to get the best 4 teams there. Why? Even if you could measure/determine who the best 4 teams are it would change on any given day. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are chasing something that does not exist.

Even if the teams were constant how would you measure them? Moore? Do you see who the computer is still picking as #2? Harlan. Not taking anything away from them and I greatly admire their comeback this year but they did go out in the first round by 23 point to an unranked team. How can you trust a ranking from a system that for whatever reason produce results like this?

Let geography play out and quit worrying about someone other than the 4 best teams being in the dome. As already stated.....there is no such thing as "The 4 best teams".

Good point. "Better" teams lose all the time. Playoffs are a way to crown a champion, to honor a team that plays well late in the year and overcomes better and better competition - but it's not correct to say the winner of a playoff is the "best" team. They're the team that won the most playoff games, that's all.

It's similar to any playoff system in any sport. A great team can have an off day and lose a playoff game, and they're done. They may be objectively the "best" team in the league that season, but somebody else gets the title as champion. That's what upsets do. That's how things work.

Where should these games be played?

I like neutral sites but doubt that will ever happen without some arm twisting by the state.

Can't go seed or record at this stage because you are not comparing apples to apples. Someone in a weaker district can be undefeated and a 1 seed while someone else could have a couple losses and a 2 seed and still be the better team.

Not crazy about alphabet. I'd rather see the state flipping coins for home field for these quarter final games. If a coin toss is good enough to be used to determine opening possession it would be a fair and consistent way to determine playing field.
