What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“Since summer has started, I lift 4 days a week and on three of those days we as a team go down and work on the field for about an hour and a half. Outside of that, I'm doing speed and plyometric workouts with former Iowa running back Jermelle Lewis once or twice a week. Every once and awhile when Marcus and I can get access to the stadium, we will go down and work route timing and stuff. That stuff and then I always get good work in at each camp I go to.”
What do you feel you have improved on most since last football season?
“My biggest change since last season I would say is I’ve put on about 20-25 pounds since the end of football. Through lifting 4 days a week all through winter and spring, during track and basketball I’ve been able to go from 180 to 205. Along with that size, I’ve gained a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities on the field.”
What are you trying to improve on before the football season begins?
“Like I said earlier this summer, I started doing speed workouts with Jermelle Lewis so I’m just looking to get as fast and as explosive as I can before the season.”
Who is your opponent in the season opener and how do you feel about them overall?
“In the season opener, we have Dubuque Senior at home. We lost to them 6-7 last year in a very winnable game. Last year we just came out with a bunch of new players who had no varsity experience and played scared. Now we have an experienced core and it should be a different game. I’ve met some of their guys at camps and I hear they have a pretty talented junior class so it should be a good game.”
Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“This summer, I decided to quit playing AAU basketball to focus on my football career and pursue football in college. I enjoyed playing basketball but didn’t really want to pursue that in college, so I decided to quit the AAU aspect as it takes a lot of time during the summer where I could do football workouts.”
What colleges have been recruiting you?
“So far from Division II, I’ve been talking to Saint Cloud State, Bemidji State, Central Missouri, Augustana, Wayne State College, and Minnesota State Mankato. For Division 1, it’s been Northern Iowa, Drake, Western Illinois, North Dakota, and I haven’t talked to them much but after camp Iowa State invited me to come on a game day visit.”
What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I have no offers right now and I’d say it’s been pretty equal through all schools each wanting me to come to their camp and meet their head coach.”
Have you made any college trips yet?
“This spring, I visited Saint Cloud State, Winona State, Wayne State, Drake, and Bemidji State.”
Do you have plans for more trips soon?
“Right now, I’m planning on game day visits at UNI, Western Illinois, and Iowa State but no dates are set for any of them.”
What camps did you do this summer and how did they go?
“This summer, I went to Lindenwood Mega Camp, Iowa State, Iowa, UNI, South Dakota State, and Western Illinois. They were all great experiences as I had never been to a camp before, so it was a new atmosphere and environment for me. It’s always great to get out and compete against good players and be coached by great coaches. At those last three camps, I was playing tight end for the first time which was a lot of learning and getting used to but I’m happy to play wherever a coach wants me to so I can help the team. I also plan and am going to North Dakota’s camp in July and possibly Mankato.”
Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I’ve always been a born and raised Hawkeye fan. Both my parents went to college there, so it’s always been a part of my upbringing.”
