Potential First Round Upsets

Any thoughts on potential upsets for the first round? I think Pella Christian is really good. However, Sigourney-Keota has a really strong running game. They caused some real problems for Regina earlier in the year. If they can control the tempo, that could create some problems. Pella Christian seems to have no problems scoring but if SK can play keep away, it could really tighten this game up. I think if I had to pick one, this could be it. That being said, I think the quad with Denver, South Winn, Bellevue and Clayton Ridge is kind of a toss up with Denver having the edge. Not sure I see too much for potential upsets in the first round.

I'll bite...

If you're calling an upset simply a lower seed beating a higher seed I'll predict (in order of confidence)

Hinton over Logan-Magnolia (80% confident)
S. Winn over Bellevue (60% confident)
West Lyon over Western Christian (50/50; always love West Lyon in a rematch)

I'd give S-K a chance if it was going to be a normal late October night (40 degrees and high winds), but sounds like a great night for watching/playing football is in store.

Ya, weather looks great for Friday. Good point on SK-PC. I can agree with all of the above but I am not familiar with any close up. Hinton is battle tested no doubt. I don't know much about Lo-Ma. S. Winn has had a good program in recent history and Bellevue is new to this. Kilburg sounds awfully good. I think a S. Winn win will be predicated on containing him. Similar to Lenoch for WB. West Lyon is VERY well coached and awfully good year-in-and-year-out. I see they lost earlier in the year 21-17 so certainly could go either way. If I remember, that game was a tale of two halves. Thanks for biting!

To me I see Pella Christian rolling in round 1. SK will struggle to stop PC on offense and SK being so one dimensional makes them easier to defend. PC 35. SK 14

I think Western is the PC of NW Iowa. Western has athletes all over the field. Their game with WL earlier this year was close but it looks like Western threw all over them. I don't see this one being as close. West Lyon doesn't have the athletes to compete here. Western 42 West Lyon 14

I don't know much about South Winn but they have been on a roll since their loss to Denver. Bellevue has given up its fair share of points this season but has stayed unbeaten. I would lean toward South Winn here.
South Winn 28 Bellevue 21

I think SK over Pella Christian is a great upset pick.
Offensively, PC runs through the QB (Kac) and their WR (Jungling). IMO, #15 is a better "athlete" than Jungling. If SK can limit Jungling to a handful of catches and yards, and maybe one TD, I think that is a win for them.

Defensively, I don't know if PC can contain SK. They had Regina on the ropes, and put up 40 and 35 against Wappelo and WIlton. Now, Wappelo and Wilton are not PC, but I think SK has demonstrated all year the ability to run the ball and be effective in the spinner back with the athletes they have.

I think it is going to be a shoot-out. No idea who is going to come out on top, but I think this will be the most interesting game of the entire slate in 1A. We will learn a lot about both teams. Outside of a decent game against Pleasantville, this will be far be the toughest test for PC. I would be shocked if the point differential is more than 10 either direction. If PC blows past SK, than I think Regina needs to be on upset alert big time next week.

Good call on the Hinton game. Favorites seemed to win out.
