Playoff Seeding Talk

With it technically being a neutral site, will Jefferson be forced to leave the marching band at home in accordance with Boone rules?

The marching band is not allowed to play during a playoff game anyway. At least not during pregame and halftime. You can have a pep band in the stands.

As for not using Coe, I've heard Coe was not willing to give the stadium up until 6:30. That's obviously not early enough for a 7:00 game.

According to the postseason manual, home teams can indeed have their marching band perform on the field before the game and during halftime. It has to be on your home field, though; marching bands are expressly not allowed at neutral-site games.

But if you're at home, yes, you can have the marching band perform.

Is that new this year? I'm pretty sure this was always against the rules in prior years. Interesting, not that it matters to the outcome of the game.

From the post season manual:
The home team in the football play-offs has the option to perform on their home field. This simply means the home team will
have the option of having their band perform pre-game and half-time routines if the school desires. Visiting teams will not have
the option of having a marching band. If the game is played on a neutral field, there will be no marching band performance. Pre-
game and half-time routines should be arranged with the play-off manager. No half-time routine will be longer than 12 minutes.
Except for the aforementioned home team marching band, there are to be no other performances or activities that occur on the
football field during pre-game. Marching band members of the home team will be admitted free if they are marching for the game.

That's fair of Coe. Not unlike UNI not giving up the dome until late for every Cedar Falls home game. If that was the offer, they should've taken it.

On a sidenote, I don't know why a 3:00 game at kingston wouldn't have been alright. It's no different than playing a state tournament basketball game middle of the week during the day.

The east side is really strange this year. Prairie and ICW both have losing records, one of them will be in the second round. Wash and Kennedy both drew opponents with a winning record but a 4 seed from their districts.

Another interest thing is Kennedy's schedule. They won their district that includes two teams that finished 6-3, and in their non-district schedule they beat 2 district winners, and 2 district runner-ups. That's pretty battle tested.

Wouldn't be surprised if District 2 sweeps.
Dowling, Johnston, Lewis Central & posbly SC East have winnable games. Johnston & LC played Dowling tough and the LC/Johnston game was a slobber knocker. I could see Dowling, Johnston & LC making deep runs til they play one another.

Volleyball was the reason given in a Gazette article and I'm sure it boiled down to parking because there wouldn't by any once the football crowd began to arrive.

It really would've been cool for the city of Cedar Rapids to have a triple header at Kingston. As others have noted, the state came up with a pretty lame excuse saying they didn't want kids missing class considering volleyball and basketball state games are played during the day.

The whole Kingston thing burns me. Its another example of the double standard the state has towards football. They allow all these other sports to play during the day, but say no to Jefferson, who rightfully earned a home game. What will they do on Monday if Jeff, Wash, and Kennedy win? I assume Jeff gets screwed again by the state.

Well, I think it would be kind of a stretch for Jefferson to have a home game in the second round. They would have to face somebody lower-seeded in order for that to happen - Kennedy and Wash are guaranteed to be home if they win Wednesday, since they each won their districts and district champs can't play each other until the third round.

I haven't dug very deep into the 4A matchups, so I don't know the likelihood of a 3- or 4-seed in the east winning the first round, which could possibly line Jefferson up for another home game. You know, the state could guarantee a big gate on Monday if they paired Jefferson and Washington in one game, then Kennedy against somebody else.
