Well, McDonnell passed the Wahlert test, as he had 16 points, a bunch of rebounds, and played with poise and discipline (even managing a couple of smiles) in the face of unrelenting pressure from Wahlert's bigs, especially Cordell Pemsl who was trying to get "into his head." McDonnell is really long and quick, and I wonder if he isn't going to hit 6-11 in the next year. 6-8 junior Pemsl did better in the second half against senior McDonnell, but they both sat a long time on the bench with four fouls each. The Rams held Cordell 14 points below his season average, and Pemsl was obviously the one whose head was gotten into. Both are young teams and at one time there were nine juniors or younger on the court. If McDonnell's young teammates can step up a little more offensively, his team could be dangerous come tournament time. But this year 4A is loaded and nobody is going to make state without a lot of battle scars.
