I'd say #3 is well deserved. Beat a Colfax Mingo team (6-1) and have only given up 13 points all year. This week will tell if they're real contenders or just pretenders.

They are putting up nearly identical numbers with an unranked team. How can one of them be top 3 and the other not even top 10 when the only difference is 2 non-district games.

Assuming you're referring to Mt Ayr... Their undoing came from a loss to Shenandoah. Neither of them has played a tough schedule so quality wins are hard to come by which is what the "the press" looks at for these polls. BC gives a better overall picture of where you stack up comparatively.

And BCMoore says they stack up pretty evenly. Mount Ayr's loss to Shenandoah was by 1 point with several key players out, including the kicker, so there's your difference in that game. If I had to guess, I'd say Pleasantville is rated a tad too high and Mount Ayr is slightly underrated. But we'll find out for sure on Friday.

Agree with your assessment there on Mt Ayr, but remember most pollsters only see the final score of the game not details such as missing players, jv playing second half and what nots. Mt Ayr is in my opinion the class of southern Iowa A football, as no one in my opinion below I-80 will even come close to them come playoff time. I too am excited to see who wins this matchup on Friday and wish the Raiders good luck.

I think Pleasantville might be the better team, I'm just not sold on the #3 ranking. I think around 6-7 is a little more appropriate.

Mt Ayr by 27 this weekend. Last years score if i remember correctly was 79 to 0. I know both teams lost players but i cant see an79 point swing from one year to the next. Jmo. Thoughts

61 to 7 im sorry. Mt Ayr by 27 but hope no injuries from either team as they will represent the district in playoffs

Last year Pville lost to Earlham by 22 and this year won by 40. That's 62 points of swing as you put it simply from graduation. Pleasantville is much improved and gets to play at home. Mount Ayr has also been struggling to put teams away this year, they let them hang around for a while. If MA goes into this game relaxed it'll be Pleasantville with the district championship.

What games, may I ask, have Mount Ayr struggled to put teams away in? Because those games are news to me.

Earlham 13-0 at half before Earlham botched kickoff return and imploded.
Shenendoah. This should already answer your own question. 398 yards for MA vs 324 for Shenendoah and MA won the turnover battle. They lost because they didn't put them away early.
Really you could argue they even let Bedford hang around a while, as in midway through the second. I'm counting it because Bedford's QB was out for the game which put them in a hole before the game even started.

They rolled MstM and NV from the start and you can throw the CA game out.

You might try to argue MA is wearing these teams out, but I believe they have better athletes from the start and it just takes them a while to get going.

Mount Ayr only ran about 14 plays in the first half of the Earlham game, because Earlham ran the play clock down to the very last second on every snap in the first half. And yet Mount Ayr still led 13-0 at halftime. So you can't really count that as not putting them away. Mount Ayr scored four touchdowns in the first 7 minutes of the third quarter. By contrast, Pleasantville only lead Earlham 10-0 at halftime. So if you want to say Mount Ayr had trouble putting them away, you have to say Pleasantville did, as well.

I'll give you the Shenandoah game, but like I said earlier, Mount Ayr was without a starting running back/kicker and a few other players. Not to mention Taylor got hurt in that game. So that loss doesn't concern me at all.

Unfortunately, I will not be at the game this week. Looking forward to following the updates, though. I think it's going to be a real humdinger.

I might be mixing in slow starts with not putting teams away, but one would think that most scoring occurs in the first half when the starters are in and the clock isn't continuous.

I'll have to look at the weather before committing to going to the game.

What does everyone have for a score?

I say a mid 30's (W) to low 20's (L) with the winner being whoever scores first. I think it's going to impact both teams mentally who aren't used to playing behind. Both teams are going to be fast.

The thing I love about this game is it brings back an old school playoff matchup between these two schools. I'm not sure exactly but I think they've met 3 times in the playoffs when they only took the top 16. The last few years Pleasantville has been down. Nice to see them back on the up swing again. I could see this being a knock down drag out with the score being 7-0 either way. Gonna be a great game to watch and couldn't get any better fall weather for it.
