I was wondering if anyone in D5 could give any insight on West Liberty. My son's team (Bondurant) plays them tomorrow night in the first round. Quick Stats shows that they average something like 5.6 ypc? Are they an explosive team? If that stat is true, I'm inclined to think that perhaps their defense is susceptible. Anyone willing to share what they've seen?

Didn't see Mepo play them in person (listen on web) but wasn't impressed last year with them, saw them twice. Lost their big play receiver from last year. Can be explosive but not likely. Competition is weak besides Mepo and Mid Prairie and Regina in non district. Just get physical and hit hard. Don't know anything about Bodurant besides watching them play at Mepo last year so don't know how they would stack up.

WL is a decent team. They do have some quickness in the backfield. I don't think they run very deep, and seem to be a couple of good athletes away from being a pretty good team. I think L&M is a little better personnel wise, and alot better up front, even tho they lost head to head. B-F 34 WL 14

Thanks for the feedback. It is the playoffs, so one never knows what is in store. We were a little flat against PCM last week, but I expect Bondurant to be ready to play tonight. Solid 3 days of practice heading into tonight's game. I've got my rain jacket, and am ready to see it play out. That said...if we are fortunate enough to win tonight, I'm not looking forward to the drive back to Mediapolis for the 2nd round (provided they win as well). That is a haul. No offense, MepoDawg. ;)

I have a son who plays for West Liberty and offense isn't an issue for their team. We're averaging 25+ points per game and have moved the ball against every team we played this year (including Mepo and Mid-Prairie). Offensively, their downfall has been turnovers all season long (seems like we have 3-4 per game).

Defense has been the team's achilles heel all year. They don't tackle well and have a tendency to give up the big play. Not exactly a winning combination.

That being said, we've been in the underdog role in first round playoff games in each of the past two years and they've responded well and won on the road. Should be a fun game, if the weather cooperates, to watch if you like offense.

Only saw these guys once against Mid Prairie, but from what I saw I would echo everything CometHoops has already said. I wouldn't call them explosive, but they moved the ball well against what I felt was a good Mid Prairie defense. Too many penalties, turnovers, and big plays given up.

He forgot to tell you that every Monday is early out day in BF which mean they will leave most like right after school let's out at 1:50 for the high school.
