***** IN GAME THREAD - XAVIER VS. PELLA *****

It's like Noah is a QB or something.... ;) Good player, not taking anything away from him, but he has a bit left to write before he has those comparisons. This is a good start.

Cru- Possibly. The speediest team probably as far as I can remember. The 2008, 2009, 2006 teams just off the top of my head were pretty good.

You must be mistaken about the 2006 team… Very average year. I would say that 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014 have been some of the best. The 02 team lost a heart breaker in overtime against a Brandon Meyers led Atlantic team that went on to win the title. Also 2003 when we lost to Mt. Vernon in the Semis, that was a solid team

Xavier didn't look good tonight. Would have been nice to see them at full strength, but the Pella line was the difference. They had Xavier on their heels most of the game. Xavier's offense wasn't strong this year, but I expected more tonight. Congrats to Pella, that was a convincing win.

Dutch nation, ate you kidding me! You think because the older Clayberg was slightly injured prior to game and the younger Clayberg got hurt during the Washington / pella game last year is why pella lost?? 28-0?? I don't care if they had two more brothers and their dad played, they were not even close to the talent level as Washington!! With or without the Claybergs.

You are a nutcase, BF. A classless nut job. Put your scrapbook and the cooking sherry away. Washington had a decent team last year that caught a wave at the right time.

Watched the game on live stream last night. WOW Pella is fast and very fundamentally sound. How will Pella's line match up to Heelans? That will be the question next Thursday. Heelan is BIG and very good on the line. Pella has the edge in speed, but if Heelan can win the LOS and control the ball, I think Heelan can get the Win.

Both games were dominated by line play last night. I know Xavier was missing some key elements from their offense, but it wouldn't of mattered. Pella controlled the LOS and never allowed Xavier to get going. I was very impressed with Pella & Heelan. That is going to be the best game of the Championship series next week, Already calling it.

Sorry you didn't like the fact that Pella won last night. You obviously have no idea what your are talking about! The teams were pretty even talent wise last year and if you take Washington's best defensive player and offensive player off the field, the score might have been the opposite. That game changed when Noah Clayberg was injured in the second quarter. Injuries are part of the game and take nothing away from Washington's victory last year.

Was in the dome last night, got home at 1:30 and up for work at 6:00, so short night. Was a dominating performance by Pella. I know Xavier was banged up, but Pella really played well. Line of scrimmage was won by Pella. That is Pella's bread and butter. I was able to watch the second half of the Heelan-Creston game as well as we got there earlier then I thought we would. Heelan looked great, obviously. Heelan will not push around Pella like they did Creston. Heelan does have some big boys on the line though. Pella's D is a "suffocating" type of defense. They put all kinds of pressure on the QB and generally make life miserable. Heelan's QB won't be able to stand there all day and pick whatever receiver he wants like last night. If you have not watched Garrett Jansen play for Pella, you are missing a treat. 250 lbs but runs fast and is just a dominating force on the line. Also, DE Trevor Argo had his best game last night. 6'3" 220 lbs. He was in Xavier backfield the whole night off the edge. Is a tough matchup.

As far as the earlier chat about this Pella team compared to other Pella teams, anyone who thinks Pella has had a team this good and talented in the past is kidding themselves. I have watched every Pella team since the late 70's and this is the best team Pella has had. Now, Pella has had some traditionally good teams and has made the dome several times, but Pella has also lost all semi games except one before last night. The combination of the line play, skilled players, kicking game, and lack of injuries has made this a very special season.

Nice performance last night by the Dutch, should be a good one next Thursday.

bigfridaynite: A proposition that it "would have been interesting" as DutchNation wrote is far from a claim that Pella would have won or anything of that nature. Not to take any credit from either team as they were both very good, but a fully healthy Pella held Washington to 30 yards rushing while posting 360 of their own. Of course both teams improved throughout the season, but a statement that Pella wasn't even close to the talent level of Washington is egregious. Of course, as it played out, Washington won and was the better team that night, but surely we can all agree that under different circumstances, it might have been interesting.

Washington was the better team and won that night. Noah Clayberg going down right before half was a tough blow to the Pella offense as it wasn't nearly as diversified as it is this year. Was 7-0 at half, Washington, and then they blew it open the second half as Pella's offense went anemic without Clayberg. Washington won and had a great year. Not sure why we are even discussing that as it is now 2014.

I think DNation was just commenting that injuries are a part of the game, but they can greatly affect how a season goes or ends. That is just part of sports and takes nothing away from any other team. Enjoy the great season that Washington had last year, as well as this year.

If you are going to say that Washington won because of the injury to clay berg. Then Xavier can say the same thing this year, beings they did not have their starting RB or FB and LB. I mean injuries happen in football and good teams know how to overcome those injuries and move forward.

I thought Xavier would lose in the quarterfinal round, but their coaches made adjustments and was able to get a win over a good West Delaware team. Injuries happen and great teams can overcome them.

Never said or tried to insinuate that Pella lost because of injury. They were down when he got hurt and, as I said, the better team won. What I tried to say is that injuries are a part of the game and that is the way it goes sometimes. Not sure what else to say about that.

Injuries happen, and they change teams, sometimes dramatically. Losing multiple key players magnifies, especially with two-way starters. Sometimes "great" teams are suddenly not-so-great. The "if only" conversations are just that...and they just might be exactly true.

In the end, the "best" team always wins, given all circumstances on that day, and that is always reflected on the scoreboard. Sometimes a team "benefits" by an opponent's injury; sometimes teams are devastated by injury. Teams adjust if they can.

Who is Vance and what was he like as a player?

Vance Schuring was a phenomenal 3A running back for Pella. That team was kind of like this year's in that the stats would have been much better had Vance played in the second half of more games. Power and speed. Not as shifty as Clayberg, but had more power. Probably a little less quickness but speed is probably close.

That team was ahead in the 4th (I think 14-0) before Brett Meyer went bonkers. He was unreal in the 4th. They scored twice to tie the game and won in overtime. Went on to roll in the semis and final, I think by 3 or 4 touchdowns in the final.

Hard to compare Schuring and Clayberg because Noah has a year left, but Vance would run over you as opposed to make you lose your jock, where Clayberg is the other way around. Vance went to Truman State first I believe, where they tried to make him a WR. Ended up coming back to Central and had a great last 2 years there.

Also, this is the best Pella team they've ever had. Both sides of the ball and special teams are all very solid.

Come on?! The Atlantic game did not go to OT, Atlantic scored with like 15 second, 30 seconds, something like that left and went for two....got it. 15-14, is the way I remember it?
