***** IN GAME THREAD - Dowling Catholic vs. West Des Moines Valley *****

having played both, Dowling in a blowout unless they sneak a few Pella Dutch players into the game. After all if you aint Dutch you aint much! Good I hate Pella

Valley in a close game..think they have some of the intangibles on their side tonight. How about 27-24. Shame they are again matching the best teams in the state in the semi's. It will be the annual crushing of the Eastern side next Friday....now cue the posts about some close title games and the glory days of the 90's for Iowa City and Bett

"Annual crushing"? The central Iowa schools have had the upper hand, I agree, and the last couple of years haven't been close, but it's hardly been an "annual crushing." You don't have to go back to the 90s, either.

Xavier led Ankeny throughout most of the second half in 2012 - and they're a 3A school! 2011 was a three-point win for Valley. Dowling had to go to overtime in 2010. In 2009, 2007 and 2006, the west-side team didn't even win.

Kennedy and Bettendorf both look really good, and I think either one should be a solid opponent for Dowling or Valley. I give you the point that the Des Moines teams hold most of the power now (and since Valley's enrollment is the size of a small European country and Dowling's recruiting budget rivals NATO's, that should be no surprise), but they'll have to put together more than two 20+ point wins in a row to get the "annual crushing" award.

I should have added the enrollment and recruiting excuses in my first post..of course the crushing was more of a euphemism than anything. And great what is like 3 or maybe 4 years since the turn of the century the eastern side has won. It's not even close right now in terms of results. Keep grasping at close losses. so far, the Bett, CR game looks like crap. Watch the next game and see the difference..never mind, don't watch you won't be able to see it

And on top of that it's not even the Western side of the state. It's really just West Des Moines. 10 of the last 15 I believe. Getting ready to chalk up another this year. Must be rough being the rest of the state

stop whining already. they're bigger, faster and stronger.....so wuddya do? get bigger, faster and stronger in the off season. Howdya think Pella got to 4A status?

Great point. I haven't considered Pella. They are so good as to not be in the conversation of the best teams in Iowa. They should be playing at minimum the best high school team from Ohio..screw it just let them play the Hawkeyes for the best team in the state

Until they play morningside the hawkeyes are not the best team in the state...

Dowling's recruiting budget rivals NATO's? Dowling doesn't need a recruiting budget. Players want to win. Dowling wins. There's the recruiting scheme.

Kid silver hair. I agree with you. All the good athletes are at Dowling. The eastern half of the state is left with the pitiful dregs. It is painful to watch eastern iowa 4A teams pretend to play football. It isn't their fault they suck, it is Dowling's.
