***** IN GAME THREAD - Denver vs. Gladbrook-Reinbeck *****

Denver up 7-0. They are so big. Any of those lineman getting looks from Uni or possible bigger school?

Not sure. But ive always been a believer of the phrase speed kills. Good luck to all 4 teams even though im pulling for mt ayr i hope nobody gets injured like i did in college. Career ending injuries suck

9-6 at half. Intentional ground in endzone for safety. GR had extra point block on their td.

Thede misses wide left on 31 yd FG try. 18 seconds left, 4th. Looks like OT for G-R and Denver, tied at 16

that was a great high school football game. props to GR's D. after those first two drives by Denver, i thought it was going to be a long day for the GR D.

Speed kills is a good call there, congrats to GR. Really thought the beef would take this one.

Tremendous game. I thought the better team won. Denver was totally one dimensional. Put them in 3rd and long and they're screwed. Their size was impressive, and #10 was a nice player, but GR by far the more complete team with the better athletes.
#9 for GR impressive at LB, #30 ran the ball well and QB made some nice plays.
AW will struggle to stop and score points on GR.

Granted Denver didn't really pass the ball a whole lot, but from what I saw, when they did pass, they ran that short passing game screen-type pass that Akron-Westifeld ran. And they ran it with success. I didn't see anything from GR today that would suggest they can stop the Akron-Westfield passing game. Think it will be a good game, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Akron-Westfield ends up winning it. And I would have never told you that coming into the semifinals. I was awfully impressed with what I saw today.

I think Denver should have won this game and overall has a slightly better team. If they don't let the opening kickoff of the second half get ran back, this game is whole different game. Also #10 went down with a shoulder injury early in the second half and #28 went down in OT, these two are the best players by far. I thought GR adjusted very well after the first two drives and that deep pass into double coverage was impressive. I'll take GR to win it all against Akron.

So if they eliminate the kickoff then Denver would have won? gotcha.
GR decided not to kick off to Denver's kick returners. With that decision, Denver had the field position over GR the whole game and still couldn't win with their one dimensional game. GR was the better overall team. Also injuries are a part of the game. you cant play what if's in football.

All I am saying is that I thought Denver was slightly more talented. I think GR out coached Denver and hit on big plays when it mattered the most. I do think that kick return and #10 getting hurt on the next drive had an effect on the game however.

Of course it effected the game, it was apart of the game. GR caused those situations. Where was Denver more talented? obviously the return yards stat is wrong. not sure i see a single stat in Denver's favor. i guess you're entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong. I'm sure Denver had the advantage in TOP and the field position game. GR is 3-1 vs Denver in the last year. Too bad this game wasn't played outside on a wet rainy night. Denver's talent might have prevailed.

Our group agrees 100% with this. We kept saying Denver looks like the better team but absolutely struggled in their coaching decisions. GR on the other hand made some really good half-time adjustments. Special teams was a HUGE factor in this game. I have to believe that if Denver would have run a naked bootleg (like Iowa did last night) that the qb would STILL be running.

AW is extremely well coached in their passing game. I think the in-game adjustments that GR will have to make will be the deciding factor in the championship.

Still scratching my head why Denver would run Power-I play action on 3rd and long...a state semi final team is not going to be fooled by that. You could see GR secondary fill the box on 1st and 2nd and then point at the TEs on 3rd and play the pass. Especially when they showed the ability to spread it and out and throw at the end of the first half. We just found it predictable and tough on the offense to execute that.

Really impressed with GR LBs and Denvers RBs. The injury to #10 was definitely a factor. 2 great teams. IF GR destroys AW then we'll know this was the championship game. BUT I think AW is going to make that game very interesting!
