Regarding the Heelan v Carroll game. The playing conditions that night were brutal. Extremely cold evening with winds gusting to 50 mph. The conditions dictated a very defensive battle.Originally posted by fmclonefan:
I know that Heelan had an offensive explosion against Creston, and it got pretty ugly. I didn't see the quarterfinal game so how did Carroll hold Heelan to negative yards rushing? I'm guessing that they couldn't get to the edge against Carroll? Is Carroll's D fast?
As I said before the semi game, Pella has given up some yards outside the tackles this year, but nobody has been able to run up the middle. The student body left and right plays may be effective. Heelan's QB made some very nice passes against Creston. Young man has a nice arm. If Pella allows him to stand there all day and pick his receivers, Heelan will do well. But, I'm guessing this will be the most pressure that the Heelan O has faced all year. Pella's suffocating line and linebackers make it very tough to have time to pass. I'm not sure what Xavier was trying to do out on the edge in pass protection as Argo was lining up at DE all night and just rushing the passer, sometimes untouched. The Xavier RB's couldn't block him. Pella blitzed some, but they got more than enough pressure with the lineman. Eventually QB's tend to get happy feet and then don't set their feet well to throw, even if they have time. Is a cumulative effect.
I'm also very interested to see how Heelan's D will attack Pella's offense. Xavier made some nice adjusments and did better the second half. It seem to take them awhile to adjust to the speed of Pella. You can blitz Clayberg, but if he gets outside the containment he will take it to the house. He's a great open field runner. Heelan has a big, strong defense. This should be a great matchup.
The year has shown that when playing Pella you have to survive the first half. By the time teams adjust (if they can) to Pella's speed, Pella already has a sizable advantage on the scoreboard. This seemed to happen to Xavier last week. Heelan and Pella will both be prepared very well and I look for a great game. Would be quite a feet for Pella to knock off Xavier and Heelan at the dome, but I think they will do it.
I'm guessing there are a lot of Pella people that hope so...Originally posted by iowahawkfan123:
Am I the only one that hopes Pella slobberknocks Heelan?
You can join him in the psyche ward. Did either of you attend & play sports at either school? Or have a kid/nephew/niece that did/does? If the answer is "no", then all you contribute to this little drama is rooting not for, but against a group of kids. Which makes you both losers.Originally posted by IowaHawkeye1964:
It looks like a "slobberknock" to me.

We get it. You've got a butt-hurt hard-on for Heelan. But give it a rest already.
Must be a prayer term Fr. Craig failed to mention to us.Originally posted by PrideOrDie30:
I think anyone would stick up for their team/school when others are saying that they hope they get Slobberknocked (aka piss pounded). Just a few clowns trying to stir the pot but ultimately sounding like idiots for bashing a bunch of kids just playing the game.
EHS, I don't think this years team met "Heelan Standards" as a performance aspect, mainly because of the O-line struggles throughout the season.. Penalties on false starts and holdings, bad snaps and not giving McCann time to hit his targets or opening up holes for Tobin all added to it.. I bet they averaged 6 or 7 penalties a game.
They did meet "Expectations" by getting to the title game and that's all that matters.

Give it a rest, and keep it clean. We don't need that kind of talk on these boards.
