I'll get it started this year. What schools will be looking for a new head coach?

I don't know if the job is actually open or if they have a coach in waiting but Pella, Thursday will be Coach McKinstry's last game.

harlan ofensive corrinator is retiring..not sure what they have in mind, if they are going to promote from within

I'd assume Aplington - Parkersburg will be open again? If I recall, this was a one time interim situation. But I may be wrong.

That is also what I have heard. It was just a 1-year deal, although they did make the playoffs and were playing well at the end of the season.

From what I've heard, AP has a plan. There is a lot of time between now and then, so I'm not going to speak on a rumor. If it comes to fruition, it will be a good hire

It has to be a coach-in-waiting situation, right? I wasn't there, but watching on TV, it didn't look like McKinstry was actually doing much "coaching" on the sideline. He didn't even have a headset on, but he did look mic'd up.

Linn-Mar is posted on Teach Iowa. (The state has gotten rid of Iowa Works for education jobs and gone back to the system from years past)

Some other jobs I have saw on Iowa Works or Teach Iowa.

GMG
Sioux City West
Clarke
Lone Tree

Also I see that Mount Mercy is hiring a football coach this year to start the program the next year.

Ben Bollard is the new coach at Pella High

So I don't get how these schools can post head coaching positions already, when districts do not ever know what teaching positions are open until negotiations and early retirement declarations, which both happen usually in the spring.

I feel this is why most programs just hire from within anymore, because just like college they don't want to wait until spring to find a coach, plus they usually have someone qualified on staff.

AHSTW, I don't know the whole story about why the previous coach resigned, but traditionally this is a pretty good job.

Disagreement with how Administration handled a situation involving some of the athletes I have heard. Resigned standing on what he believed was right. Is what I'm being told from a fella I know in the area. I don't know the entirety of the situation so I don't want to speak incorrectly on what exactly the students supposedly did.

His grandpa and dad were both great football coaches, it will be interesting to see how he does there.

Not sure if it was ever posted that Cherokee was open, but I heard it was filled by a Storm Lake coordinator. Kris Alesch.

North Mahaska

This is a program that used to be very good, then had some very tough times, but does seems to be improving.

I'm hearing some chatter out of West Branch that much of the coaching staff isn't being retained. HC is still there though.
Your hunch is correct.

There are no coaches remaining from the Butch Pedersen era. John Nestor wants nothing to do with the history and real heart of the program. It wasn't just Coach Pedersen; it's the community.

John Nestor has very little interest in WB other than it being a place he coaches. Superiority Complexes come in many shapes and forms.

In West Branch, John Nestor is the face of it.

I hope and pray the sun will rise again and shine on the program. It can never be what it was for Coach Pedersen.

It can be, however, what it really is for West Branch.

I'm a Bear now and forever. I support the kids. I will NOT support Coach Nestor. He has no respect for what was or what is. He is all about John Nestor.

Sad to see the tradition being abandoned. It’s a close knit community and it will be tough for Nestor if he doesn’t figure out how West Branch got to be West Branch.

I see the West Branch football website is being shut down, what’s up with that?

Couple of thoughts I have from a person that has no connection to the program, or even know anyone from West Branch.

First off the hire always seemed weird to me, he was clearly just following his son to Iowa City, my guess is when the son is done, so will dad. I wondered why they didn’t want someone with a connection to West Branch or at least someone who is going to raise a family there.

Secondly, I see he is a shrine bowl coach, how did he get that honor as a first year coach, and first year in Iowa?

I get the sense that many are wondering the same thing.
