My main take away here is this is based on last year's stats and although it can be a guide of sorts to this season its also not all that relevant. New players, coaches and for some the move up in class is hard to take into account. That said I love BC Moore numbers especially as the season goes on. Personally, I'd only have 5-7 of the top 10 there in my pre-season list but at this point its all guessing until games are played. Fun though!

i am thinking 8 of of the top 10 teams are good choices, its sort of a quessing game at this time of year. i dont agree with the #1 choice, though they will be awfully good this year. hopefully i will see some games down here in phoenix, i did last year on the internet..grinnell shows all their games on the net. so i get to watch some of the competition back there in iowa

i got the harlan paper today, they look like they are loaded this year, could be their year to loose...so much talent and experiecne returns from last year. connor frame(wr) and will mclaughlin(lb) were both 1st team all state last year, mclaughlin commited to iowa state. junior aidan hall(wr) was named 2nd team all state, while seniors bieker(dl) fah(lb) and moser were third team all state. returning junior qb kasperbauer lead 3a in passing last year with 2500 yds .here is the shocker, will mclaughlin will see time at fb, he will be a load in the back field, 6ft 3 -225lb coming at ya...then add new promising (te)jacob birch to the mix....coach bladt said he has some speed and wheels out there, and some others that will pop up too. the offensive line is not small like last year either, which average about 200lb last yr..this years group is around 225, and one at 265...most of the line retures....see what happens when the season starts, but that is a lot of talent returing for the cyclones

I expect BHRV to continue to rise up this list...
I do as well. They looked like a team capable of making a deep run in the playoffs. Very physical, got some stud playmakers, do all the little things right. I came away very impressed.

The thing I love about his rankings is that it's totally data driven. The tough part is that there's not really good data at the beginning of the year, especially when starting rosters can be so highly impacted with high school teams, but after 3 weeks or so, they can be really insightful. Reviewing them does help you step out of your homer favoritism and take a more stat based view.

Agree. By the playoffs this is my go to rankings. Takes the eye test out, but there is a reason they still play the games.

I watched the Harlan Game. I have them in the title. I actually don't see them having trouble with anyone in 3A. They throttled a fairly decent and likely playoff team Grinnell. McLaughlin is a man-child. Great on Defense much more than running the ball. I don't see any way Harlan doesn't rip through all of 3A this year.
