8-Man Scoreboard - 10/16

HLV leads Meskwaki 44-22 at half. Terrell Grant is playing with a sore hammy, but he's still making an impact. A few mistakes have allowed HLV to keep the lead, as Meskwaki made it all the way to the 1 yard line and fumbled. Also a sidenote, Terrell Grant is roughly 450 yards away from being in the Top 5 for (Rushing/Passing) yards of all time in 8 man football.

GT/RA 54
H-LP 22

about 5 minutes left

Girres and most of the GT/RA starters are done for the night

AWV 50
K-P. 14
Danner 5 TD's (3 Passing 2 Rushing)
Schurke 4 TD's (3 Receiving 1 KO return)
KP's stud RB injured in first series, didn't return

Central Elkader 58, Kee High 15

Was 40-0 after 1st qrt. Elkader looked sluggish even from the start. Kee High took advantage of some mental mistakes but couldn't find the end zone until the 4th qrt against the 3rd string.

Kee High fought hard but with only 29 healthy bodies left it was obvious from the start they lacked the athletes to move the ball consistently.

Looked like a few other top teams struggled a bit as well. HLV gave up 52 to Meskwaki, Janesville allowed 20 from Clarksville and unlike they usually do, actually looks like they left the starters in for awhile.

Must of been the calm week 8 before the final push into week 9 and the playoffs. It's about to get awesome 11 days from now when the 1st round starts. Only 7 days until we see the match ups.

Will be interesting to see what the HLV/Colo score is next week. Not only does it decide who the 2 seed is but also might give an indicator of the distance between HLV, Colo and DB. We know DB is the best but by how much exactly. Also, if HLV is the 2 seed, they will have to play Midland in the 1st rd who will be the 3 seed from Dist 4. If Colo upsets them, that changes what happens for Midland because Colo is a long way, TV is a Dist opponent for Midland and NK is a long way from Midland, too far the first round. So that will throw a wrench in the matchup a big time if Colo wins.

HLV I think is a step below what they were last year.

Meskwaki as a 4 seed may give Janesville or Centeal Elkader a run for their money whoever they play.

Grant is a good athlete. From seeing a few clips on him this year, he seems a little slower and heavier. Thoughts on that by his opponents and who has seen him to this point? He is still producing yards that's for sure and by tonight's score, points as well.

He didn't impress me against N-K. N-K has been up and down this year and lost an all state caliber lineman but besides one long pass play on a cornerback slipping Grant had nothing going at all. For what is worth Janesville could score 100 on Meskwaki. N-K is a ball control team and could have still named the score. Starters played sparingly the second half.

HLV is definitely a step down from last year. Last year they had more depth, and were more versatile. Also, Louis Kreigel was quite the athlete on defense! Although, I was still surprised DB blew them out earlier in the year. Just shows how well rounded that DB squad is.

As for NK vs. Meskwaki regarding Grant, that was their main focus in stopping him. From the first possession of the game until the end, it was all, "watch #3!", "get the quarterback!". Which should be done and worked for the most part, but he still had the respect of that NK defense. NK is one of the best teams we've played this year, second to DB.

Also, Grant has gotten bigger through the weight room, but I'm not too sure on him being slower as stated. MAYBE slightly, but he is not one to be brought down easily. I might add that he does play both ways for Meskwaki and leads the state in tackles as well as being in the top ten for Rushing/Passing yards in all classes.

Can't wait to see where the state sends Meskwaki in the coming weeks. As I said in another thread, I'd love the state to send us south to play Moravia rather than going north, but either way it should be a good first round. I also am wondering how the game between HLV and Colo will be next week, because it will show the difference between them and DB.

How will the HLV vs Colo game show anything about DB? The only teams that will show us how good DB is or isn't is maybe Elkader and half of a dozen teams from the west.

Clearly, we know DB is the better team. I simply meant that it'll show the disparity within the district as for seeding. The game I would like to see would be Janesville vs. DB!

I still don't understand the logic. How is the 2nd and 3rd place game going to show the disparity within the district? The disparity is about 55 points between 1st and 2nd place. It's already been established.
