Post your scores and comments. I'll be reporting on the Bettendorf- Dub. Senior match-up at Nora Gym in Dubuque. Will see how Iowa prospect 6-1 D.J. Carton ( a junior who averages 23 a game and also leads his team in rebounds and assists) does against a tough Ram defense. Bett has had a rough year, record-wise, but they are a very young team, as is Senior-- 4 underclassmen start for each team.

Halftime- Dub. Senior 28, Bettendorf 22. Blocks, steals, dunks and tough defense on display.
Carton 10; Carter 8 and Timmerman 11.
3rd Q- Bett takes the lead 43- 39 as Carton taking over. He's as good as advertised.
4th - Carton 27 so far. 17 for Nick Timmerman. Bett 2 ahead with 1 minute to go. Players tense on both sides. Tied with 1 second left and Bett at FT line with a soph on the line for two shots for Bett. OT or Bett wins. Bett misses first FT. Misses again. OVERTIME.
OT- 53-53. Senior 57, Bett 53, as Carter Stevens gets 4 FT. Senior dominant in OT so far. Bettendorf having to foul. 1:09 left and Senior has the ball. 2 FT give Carton 33 so far. Senior 59-58 with 43 seconds to go. 61- 58. Senior goes to line with 11 seconds and 3- point lead. Timmerman 2 FT and Carton a three. Carton 36 pts. Senior will win as Stevens goes to FT line with 2 seconds left and a two point lead. FTs good. Senior wins in OT 65-61. Feel sorry for Bett's Lucas Hayes who missed the two FT that would have won it for Bettendorf.

East used a box and one and a triangle and two on Green.

CF made maybe three shots outside the paint, doesn't appear that they have any shooters, not even a soft close out on anyone other than Green.

Lack of size killed East as they probably gave up 6 or 7 and ones, but it was a six point game late in the fourth, which was what East was looking for, just didn't catch any of the breaks you need to get an upset.

That is similar to the Muscatine and North game. North essentially challenged anyone other than Weiskamp to shoot. They were doubling off screens and double or triple in the post. It worked fairly well in the first half. Muscatine missed some shots and Weiskamp picked his points up on rebounds or aggressive drives with fouls drawn. The second half they had the strategy about the same, but Muscatine made a switch and had Weiskamp posted on the weak side for the 3's so he got some offensive boards with put backs. The role guys stepped up and hit a few 3's on consecutive possessions after a North run to take the lead. Then the fourth quarter North struggled to get calls, so even with doubles on Weiskamp he got away with a hook or two on defenders and a few blocks were called fouls. Got him to the line a lot in that quarter.

Linn Mar over PV wasn't a huge upset. The MAC didn't have many teams that are consistent from beyond the arc and PV struggled to cover the 3 ball. The Linn Mar guards also have some size, so defensively it was going to be hard for Duwa and Snyder to contest the shots as well. The slow down style PV likes to play wasn't going to be a bad thing for Linn Mar. It played into their hands. Hutcheson's size and athleticism was going to be something they couldn't guard. He is to Linn Mar what Will Carius was to Pleasant Valley a few years ago.

Hutcheson and Weiskamp will be interesting to see. The way Weiskamp played against North makes me think he can duplicate the effort. He never came out of the game. He was gassed multiple times in the game, but just kept battling for everything.

10 needs to work on a quicker release. Next year Joe if you get screened and Big 10 shooters will be celebrating a three. But then for Fran you don't have to worry about playing defense so it will not matter.

So the kid makes a tremendous defensive play followed by a sweet fast break dunk and your response is to criticize his opponent, a high school kid, and complain about his future college coach? OK then. That was one of the most impressive plays I have ever seen in a high school game. I will be rooting for Muscatine to get the win tomorrow night as I would love to see him play in person down at state.

This is the most message boardy response I've ever seen. Kudos

#10 hit 3-3ptrs prior to that shot that got Davenport North back to within a basket. Had he gotten this shot off and hit it that would have given them the lead in a very tight game and continued a big run for North. Probably the biggest turning point in the game. #10 also was the leading scorer in the MAC at the Sophomore level last year because of his outside shooting. You probably shouldn't be a shooting coach. Shooters shoot.

You don't need a quick release when someone isn't expected to be able to make a play like that. When you have a shot that open you shouldn't rush it. He didn't and Weiskamp made a heck of a play to recover.
