POD #3 Treynor at Western Christian, Hull
POD #4 Belmond-Klemme at Southeast Valley
POD #5 South Hardin at South Hamilton, Jewell
POD #6 Dike-New Hartford at South Central Calhoun

2.) Once you have predicted your 2nd Round Winners, then create your new 4 Pods of 4 for the 3rd Round & Quarterfinal Rounds.

Should more weight be given to geography or should more weight be given to an actual seeding of the teams in some way 1-16.
Ready...go!

POD #1 Sibley-Ocheyedan at West Sioux, Hawarden
POD #2 Kuemper Catholic, Carroll at Emmetsburg
POD #3 Treynor at Western Christian, Hull
POD #4 Belmond-Klemme at Southeast Valley
POD #5 South Hardin at South Hamilton, Jewell

POD #13 ACGC at Van Meter
POD #14 Interstate-35, Truro at Mount Ayr
POD #15 Woodward-Granger at Underwood
POD #16 East Sac County at OABCIG

With those teams as winners

I would have

Pod 1
SK
Mediapolis
Columbus
Beckman

Pod 2
OABCIG
West Sioux
Western Christian
Emmetsburg

Pod 3
Van Meter
Underwood
Mt Ayr
Panorama

Pod 4
South Hamilton
SE Valley
DNH
Denver

Winners AND Pods

West Sioux
Western Christian
Emmetsburg
South Hamilton

OABCIG
SE Valley
SCC
Underwood

Van Meter
Mt Ayr
SK
Pella Christian

Cascade
Waterloo Columbus
Durant
West Branch

IMO, Sigourney-Keota is not a top 4 team. They are a one trick pony.

If Durant beats Beckman and WB wins, these schools are 25 miles apart. Assuming Cascade wins as well. You're gonna send Columbus 2 hours away when when it could be 70 miles or less from 3 teams?

You've now sent Columbus 170 miles to face Emmetsburg.

South Hamilton
Emmetsburg
Columbus
SE Valley

IMO, in the spirit of getting the best teams to the dome, you have to have Van Meter or SK in the pod with those Eastern teams.

You've now sent Waterloo Columbus over 100 miles no matter who they face.

Good plan.

Nobody wants to see rematches. WB has already played Durant and Cascade. They should have to play Sigourney-Keota if they are able to advance on Friday.

You act as if that has stopped the state before? West Lyon to Osage? West Lyon to Dike?

Based off your assumptions, do you truly believe one of these four teams is a top 4 team?

Cascade
Waterloo Columbus
Durant
West Branch

Who cares.
Iowa Preps doesn't decide a damn thing.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but here are the standings after the first round.

Don't see where Hawkhopeful ever predicted the games.

I really think the state will look at OABCIG, Van Meter, Sigourney Keota, Southeast Valley, and South Hamilton as the top 5 teams. SK is going to be in the SE part of the state, OABCIG makes the most sense to send with NW Iowa, Van Meter to SW Iowa, and that leavees South Hamilton and Southeast Valley which while they aren't NE as a manageable trip for a team from the eastern part of the state.

Pretty boring round. I picked all home teams ect for Panora against P.C. I think I-35 and Mount Ayr will be a close game as it was the first time they played. Also think DNH could pull the upset on the road at SCC

Next Groupings:
I have ranked the top 4 seeds and 5th being South Hamilton and SE Valley into Pods.

Emmetsburg @ #1 OABCIG
Western Christian @ #8West Sioux

Underwood @ #4 SE Valley
Cascade @ # 5 South Hamilton

Panorama @ #3 Sigourney-Keota
West Branch @ #6 Columbus Catholic

Mount Ayr @ #2 Van Meter
SCC @ #7 Beckman Catholic

I focused on getting the top "8" in what the state would think into different pods. Tried to limit rematches as well.

SK is obviously going to rely on the run game, but teams can’t put 9 in the box like they may have done in the past. They got a couple solid receivers and a qb who can throw. They haven’t needed to rely much on it to win games yet though, so I’ll be interested to see what happens with that because they will need to throw the ball to make the dome imo

Not sure what to think about SK’s passing game. I wasn’t impressed with the actual throws. It’s more if can the defense not bite on the play action and cover receivers.

SK I see has passed for a near 700 yards (probably more than they ever have). A couple elite skill kids with different skillsets exist. A balanced attack will be important so they don't get behind early in bigger games. Mediapolis once again, is my upset of the week. They will give West Branch a handful and can see that game go either way. I think the weather will have a ton to do with this post-season. Cruddy weather will benefit run-heavy teams in the weeks to come and I think its going to be worse weather than some fall seasons!

Does anyone here know much about Van Meter? It seems like they are hardly ever talked about, but obviously have a very good team. Anybody know how this team stacks up to years past?

Bears by 2TD. Ha.

I'm actually gonna go to the game with cousin from WB. Putting a heater in the back of his truck and sitting in the endzone.

Should be a fun game.

Lets just face it....... it would be a shame on the state if they put the eastern iowa teams in a pod by themselves......As it was last year with the bracket of:
North Linn- West Branch
Regina- Mepo

Well, they had this thing called the RPI last year.

But don't let that stop your narrative, big guy.

You're right they had the RPI last year- but the rpi rankings in 1a were below with the quads.
Pod One
#20 @ #1
#12 @ #6

Pod Two
#13 @ #2
#15 @ #11

Pod Three
#8 @ #4
#18 @ #5

Pod Four
#10 @ #3
#7 @ #9

I think it is pretty obvious that Pod two from last year is by far the easiest with RPI rankings. Just hope this year they split up the eastern teams. It is too bad last year Pod 4 had 4 teams that would have won pod two last year IMO.

So far for round 2 with 8 people participating we have 11 games that are unanimous, 3 more with only one dissenting pick. The Durant @ Beckman game is split 4/4 and the Mepo @ West Branch game is split 3/5.

Are you making my point for me? Regina wasn’t one of the 4 best teams last year in my opinion.

Hard to say that for sure when they lost one of the best receivers in the state heading into the State Semifinals.
