2025 Soccer

Last week in a top 5 match up, Regina handed West Liberty their first loss of the season.
The win made it 15 straight for the Regals over the Comets. A remarkable run considering both teams have long been among the best in 1A, and most of the wins have been 1 goal games.

Well...not a lot of interest in soccer this season unfortunately.
Anyway, the State Tournament starts today. Doesn't really feel like it because they farmed out the first round games to a bunch of different venues for some reason.

So it feels like play in games and not really state?

Exactly. Not to mention media used to be able to cover all the games at Cownie. Now, they can no longer do that.
Spectators could see multiple teams, with four games going on simultaneously, not anymore. The quarterfinal games were always one of the best days, with all the games and teams together.
Yesterday at Mediacom Stadium where they will host the semifinals and finals, they couldn't even keep the stream from freezing, leaving it almost unwatchable. I suppose that is fitting for Mediacom.

Any upsets? Surprises?
In 4A, City High loses in Iowa City to Ames, 1-0. This seemed like City's best team in recent years, but they just can't break through.
In 3A, Liberty defeats Hoover in PK's, and CR Washington knocks off the defending Champions D-CG in PK's.
In 1A, Regina gets a hard fought 1-0 win over St. Albert. Van Meter knocked off the defending Champions N. Fayette Valley 1-0.
And, West Liberty gets upset by West Sioux 2-0. West Liberty continues to struggle at the State Tournament.

Also frustrating that they really didn't have a bracket until the semifinals. They seeded the quarterfinals then reseeded the semifinals. Congrats to West Sioux, you knocked off the number 2 team in the state, your reward is now you get to play the number 1 team in the state rather than it being an actual bracket. It should be 1v4 and 6v7 for the semifinals. Really disappointed with IAHSAA on the changes. I hope they reconsider this for the future or treat basketball the same way.

That's another big change. It didn't bother me quite as much, because I always thought their 1-8 seeding were so poor anyway.

Relocate the entire tournament to Cownie. Stream all the games for free, pay for it with advertising.
Eliminate ties during the regular season (I saw two teams claim a conference championship, because they apparently didn't know how to handle the ties). Bound can't handle the ties either, it shows them as losses in some places on the site.
And, bring back the 3rd place game for additional revenue, extra experience for quality refs on the verge of a playoff assignment, and as a reward for those teams who just miss the Final.

Playing vs a team getting a home game in the state tournament is BS. Not to mention the other reasons listed already. The boys association can’t do anything right.
Wow, just not right. Boy$ in Boone $till not mi$$ing any meal$. A$ long a$ the check ca$he$…… $ad….
