I am not trying to start something, because I don't know and I don't want to discredit or anything like that. Just simply a question for you.Originally posted by ORSKY1:
Not sure that was appropriate. John is a very good guy, who had very limited resources by way of talent and participation. He has poured himself into this position and given his best to the program. This is not a time to bash anyone .
Participation is I believe contingent on a number of issues. Coaching could certainly be part of the equation. So is parent engagement, community participation/support, school administration/teacher attitudes and desire for successful students, socioeconomic factors and any other number of other factors. Burlington is a very different community with a history of job loss, high unemployment, influx of inner city families from Chicago, lower test scores, higher rate of families needing assistance, etc... I think it is on the front edge of a turnaround due to recent increase in jobs, income, and refocus on education in the school system, but it will take time.
Several are actually wearing blue and gold (Notre Dame) but there is certainly a larger contingent of athletes participating for WBND than at BHS. It's really incredible to have so many top performers in one small community.I could be wrong but after observing the Drake Relays results this past weekend, I would say the better athletes in Burlington, no matter how you classify them, are wearing Black and Green.
