Thoughts???

Sure most people thought M St M vs EV in the first round last year was going to be a pound job. However, it turned out to be one of the best games of the entire tourney. Dont count the underdog teams out untl they are out.

Here's what I came up with for the seeding:

1 Bishop Garrigan 1.63636
2 Newman Catholic 1.54054
3 Lawton-Bronson 1.50000
4 Martensdale-St. Mary's 1.42857
5 Treynor 1.32353
6 Lisbon 1.14634
7 Earlham 0.93548
8 North Tama, Traer 0.69697

#4 Martensdale-St Marys 8
#5 Treynor 2

#1 Bishop Garrigan 3
#8 North Tama 1

Nielsen and Vaske were filthy like they've been all year.

#1 Bishop Garrigan (39-6)
#4 Martensdale-St Marys (38-5)

Possibility of Nielsen vs Vaske Thursday at 6pm. Nielsen only threw 5 and Vaske has thrown on short rest already in the playoffs.

I couldn't find any isolated audio clips of this, but I figure at about :30 this is probably how you were reacting to the win today.

The bears have won

It was a brutal game to listen to. The "we'll just hit fly balls over the fence" works occasionally when you're on a high school field. Not so much when you're at Principal Park. If the game wasn't bad enough the radio guy (I hope like hell they aren't paying him) for the IHSSN was beyond awful. Rarely got team names right, the score right, the game situation right, or player names right. The names one is especially troubling when the color guy was getting them right and the main guy couldn't get them right while I could hear the PA at Principal Park getting them right over the radio broadcast.

Yeah there's a reason they're working for the IHSSN. Some years it sounds they they bring in an intern to work the games.

Another NCC fan watching through rose-colored glasses, I guess.
Well hello there. Shall we begin?

Not necessary; it'll all be over Thursday.
Funny, I thought Saydel's season was over last Monday. Who's playing Thursday?

From a guy who has no vested interest in the outcome for the most part, I would really like to see MstM get their 3rd straight title. My prediction is it will come down to a showdown with Newman, and that game will be a toss-up.

Seemed like Treynor has a pretty talented hurler in Chapin. Not sure if the errors made him lose his composure or if MstM just figured him out but he sure looked good early.

So not knowing anything about Bishop Garrigan, what is their strength? Hitting? Pitching? Just an all-around solid team? How do they match up with Martinsdale? Having watched over the years, Nielsen concerns me if they should get down, or in a tight game. Seems like he doesn't handle pressure well. However not seeing him much this year, maybe he has grown out of that.

2-5 are extremely talented hitters.

Vaske is the best pitcher and probably one of the better ones in the state. Throws hard (upper 80s) and throws offspeed in the zone. Not sure if he'll go tomorrow on short rest or not.

Usually very fundamentally sound and play solid defensively.

Principal Park is a terrible place for the power hitting baseball they've won games with this year. What would've been a home run in a normal high school setting is now turning into just a long flyout.

Ended up the #1 seed because they won their conference of 2A/3A schools. If they don't hit better (more disciplined) than than they did Monday, MSM will win easily.

Garrigans 2, 3, and 4 hitters are seniors, and if they go 0 for against MTSM like they did Monday, it will be a long day. Austin has had 1 hit in the entire playoffs and state combined. Hopefully that changes tomorrow night. If the game is low scoring, I like Garrigans chances, if it is high scoring, I don't like them. The Garrigan kids will not be intimidated by MTSM as they have seen some great teams this year and beaten them. Should be a great game tomorrow night.

I was impressed with Newman on Monday night. It was the first time I'd seen them play. They looked and played sharp.

I will guarantee the 2-4 hitters will not go 0 for like they did Monday, because they did NOT go 0 for on Monday. Boisjolie had a hit Monday. Do your research. I am looking forward to this game.

Austin had 2 hits the first round game, 1 the second, 0 in the district final, 1 at substate, and 0 Monday.

Helps to know what you're talking about.

Doc, I didnt know you looked at baseball boards? You are surrounded by greatness!!! The Bears to the west, and the Knights to the east!!

If the Bears and the Knights would somehow win, maybe the title game should be held on the Holy grounds of West Hancock High!! Save everybody lots of driving and money.

Kruck:

Now that is a thought! Or possibly it could be held in the big open lot behind the Duncan Hall in metro Duncan, Iowa. By the way, I am assuming that Newman will take the 1A title. It would be good for the NIC.

WOW! What a game! Garrigan has a VERY talented team. If anyone questions MSTM's toughness and grit after that they don't know baseball. Down 2 with 2 outs and they just refused to lose. They never at any time thought they were out of that game. Congrats to both teams on a GREAT game!!

On another note, I'd kinda like to see Lisbon win so the two wrestling powerhouses from this year could go at it!

I can't seem to find the Saydel results from tonight? Or last night. Or the night before that. Or the week before that. Hm, must be an error on all these score sheets.

That said, all 4 of the semifinal teams in 1A would've crushed Saydel.

MstM will have their hands full with newman. Should be a great game. Either team is a worthy champion.

As expected.
Of course you expected MSM to score 2 in the bottom of the 7th on their final out and then pull away in the 8th. You're a regular fortune teller.

So how'd your prediction for the Fort Dodge-Dowling game go?.....as expected?

I knew I'd be in trouble when the Dowling coaching staff decided not to start LeWarne.

The Maroons got what they deserved (rarely pays to save pitching / to look past anyone).

Dowling threw their top three at the end of the game anyways and they did worse than the Reinhardt kid anyway so that excuse doesnt apply here

Huge difference between starting and relieving.

Major league teams pay millions to specialists who can handle the pressure of getting their teams out of jams.

Not surprising you overlooked that element, though.

LeWarne starts, I think the game would've played out differently (not that it matters, now).

The Dowling coaches made a poor choice. FD, obviously, is a team that shouldn't have been overlooked.

Agreed! I think Newman was a little too over anxious on that squeeze attempt, even though it was questionable if he was out or not.(looked as though catcher had plate blocked and runner didn't quite touch home plate) I think Nielsen was getting a little wild. I may have had my hitters just be very selective and see what happened that way. Anyhow great game and can't win when you don't hit the ball generally. MstM FINDS ways to win. I was told from a few of their fans that their JV team has only lost a handful of games the last few years so they should be tough for awhile sounds like.
