Who Is Switching Classes Next Cycle?

I'd bet they wait until after Basketball state is over. Not to steal thunder.
Missouri Valley is sharing all sports with West Harrison going forward, so that should put them in Class 1A. Which means District 8 in Class 1A should probably be: Tri-Center, Treynor, Underwood, Shenandoah, Red Oak and Missouri Valley. Just my thoughts.
My thoughts as well. So 3 more weeks at least.
Rumblings in the NW corner is that Sioux Central will also be dropping to A from 1A, but I honestly have no idea.
I think in 2 years they will be, but I don't see that, I have their number at 153.1278, which is the 191st biggest school, if the previously mentioned co-ops/schools separating happens. If Missouri Valley bumps up to 1A that would make South Hamilton the biggest Class A now their enrollment is 145.18084, and then MMCRU is next after them at 141.3696. So they are a ways above the cutoff, but I will say it looks like their classes will be smaller moving forward.
I am also wondering if Grand View Christian will be in 2A. I have no enrollment number for them, I know that Des Moines Christian's enrollment has really exploded the last couple of years, and honestly Grand View went from 8 man to Class A last time around. I have no number for them at all other than their enrollment the state uses for this school year. The "official" BEDs document has their middle school and elementary but not the high school, and the middle school has classes in the 80s.

A document I have seen from an AD in this area that they have been sharing amongst themselves has Sioux Central at 138.54, the doc has the same # for South Hamilton and MMCRU as you have.

I'll just tell you how I got my number, the 9,10,11 grades at Sioux Central this year have enrollments of 52,66,71 which is 189, and they have a FRL of 47.45%. Which comes of to the 153 number. I am not doubting you, I'm just telling you how I got my number. The only thing I can think of is that their 8th grade is 54 which if you put that instead of 71 and keep the FRL it would be around 139?
The Iowa football coaches association clinic is this weekend in Des Moines and as always members of the IAHSAA will be in attendance so I assume they will get a ton of questions when these are going to be posted.
I’m finding articles from KMA and KJAN on March 13, 2023 about preliminary classifications.
Districts usually come within a week or so of classifications. Figuring out the districts is the easy part in the whole process...it's the classifications and then the full schedules that take forever!!
This has been floating around for a few weeks now. I know several coaches that were sharing it back & forth, but I don't know where it originated. Likely someone's predictions, so I would take this with a grain of salt....

Looks like my sources with Sioux Central were correct, somehow they had the in. What is the reasoning behind Woodbine being able to stay 8?
So they didn't use the waiver 2 years ago, so they can use a 1 time waiver as a current 8 man school to not move up, if in 2 years they are above the cutoff they would be forced up to 11 man, same with WACO. Midland used the waiver 2 years ago, so they are not able to.
Now I will say the state is following this time, in the past there have been some schools that they haven't enforced this upon.

So now that we have the classifications (although it did say they are not final). This is what I have for class A, trying to balance travel and balance out who I see as the top programs. In 7 of the 8 I have at least 2 teams that I view as top 20 for next year. The one I can't say that is the SE district, but it makes too much sense geographically.

District 1 went from a nice neat close 7 teams district to 8 teams when Sioux Central showed up, so one teams got shipped south, I think it could also be Gehlen but went with AW because Gehlen is a returning district champ, so I left them in their NW Iowa District.
District 2 I thought about and possibly could have separated West Hancock and Saint Ansgar but I honestly think that his works the best, and with the state showing that they will try to get both to the dome I don't think that it is that big of deal. I did send North Butler east instead of AGWSR because I think that they will be better the next two years, and they are closer to the district 3 schools.
District 3/4 So there are a couple of different ways to break these districts up, essentially North/South or East/West. I went with this because overall it is the least amount of travel, and I think it splits up Maquoketa Valley, Wapsie, NP, and North Linn who I see as the top 4 teams in these two districts. You could however send East Marshall and BCLUW to district 3 and Starmont and Clayton Ridge to district 4, if that happened you might switch AGSWR and North Butler as well. But I like it this way overall, because it is less travel as a whole.

Here is my analysis and reasoning.
District 1: West Lyon is actually kind of on an island, but I think Geographically it makes the most sense to put the other 5 with them. West Lyon, Hinton and Ridge View I think all should be tough, but that is NW Iowa football in 1A/2A.
District 2: Sioux Central actually dropping down did mess things up geographically but I think that this still works. The last two years this district has probably been the weakest, and it probably still is, but I do think adding SCC who is always well coached, and CGD who is a 2A drop down and very young last year makes this district stronger. You could put Eagle Grove instead of CGD but for balance this makes much more sense.
District 3: This district on paper may look a little weird, but the way the map came together, this made the most sense. You have the 4 schools on the western part of Waterloo, and the two Mason City area schools, overall travel isn't too bad. I also think Grundy separate from South Hardin and West Marshall which makes sense balance wise.
District 4: This is essentially the NE Iowa district. Jesup and Union would probably like to be with the other 4 Waterloo area schools, but on a map this makes the most sense, and Bellevue not being a 1A school kind of messes up district 4 and 5.
District 5: Unless the state moves Beckman and Cascade to this area instead of the NE part of the state, I don't see how this isn't a district. Plus I think with Regina and Lisbon you have 2 of the top 20 or so teams.
District 6: Again I think that this is a district that makes the most sense on a map. Sigourney and Cardinal to West Central Valley is a bit of a haul but mostly on 4 lane. Balance wise I don't maybe see any dome contenders but 3 or 4 teams that could win a playoff team. And losing Bellevue sent a team like SK west instead of east.
District 7: This was probably the last district I put together, I like it because of the balance it creates, I view South Hardin as a possible top 5 team, and separating them from Grundy creates balance, but there is still West Marshall and South Hamilton who are always strong.
District 8: If there is a district that I would bet my house on it would be this one. Geographically it is perfect. I do think that with Underwood, Treynor and Tri-Center you have three very strong teams but again I don't see how you separate them.
This map came together in this order 1,8,6,5,4. Then I was left with 18 schools to divide up, and I tried to separate the top teams while having travel that still makes sense. I do think there are some different things you could do mainly with the eastern part of the state, but this is what I went with for my best guess.

District 2: Sioux Central actually dropping down did mess things up geographically but I think that this still works. The last two years this district has probably been the weakest, and it probably still is, but I do think adding SCC who is always well coached, and CGD who is a 2A drop down and very young last year makes this district stronger. You could put Eagle Grove instead of CGD but for balance this makes much more sense.
District 3: This district on paper may look a little weird, but the way the map came together, this made the most sense. You have the 4 schools on the western part of Waterloo, and the two Mason City area schools, overall travel isn't too bad. I also think Grundy separate from South Hardin and West Marshall which makes sense balance wise.
District 4: This is essentially the NE Iowa district. Jesup and Union would probably like to be with the other 4 Waterloo area schools, but on a map this makes the most sense, and Bellevue not being a 1A school kind of messes up district 4 and 5.
District 5: Unless the state moves Beckman and Cascade to this area instead of the NE part of the state, I don't see how this isn't a district. Plus I think with Regina and Lisbon you have 2 of the top 20 or so teams.
District 6: Again I think that this is a district that makes the most sense on a map. Sigourney and Cardinal to West Central Valley is a bit of a haul but mostly on 4 lane. Balance wise I don't maybe see any dome contenders but 3 or 4 teams that could win a playoff team. And losing Bellevue sent a team like SK west instead of east.
District 7: This was probably the last district I put together, I like it because of the balance it creates, I view South Hardin as a possible top 5 team, and separating them from Grundy creates balance, but there is still West Marshall and South Hamilton who are always strong.
District 8: If there is a district that I would bet my house on it would be this one. Geographically it is perfect. I do think that with Underwood, Treynor and Tri-Center you have three very strong teams but again I don't see how you separate them.
This map came together in this order 1,8,6,5,4. Then I was left with 18 schools to divide up, and I tried to separate the top teams while having travel that still makes sense. I do think there are some different things you could do mainly with the eastern part of the state, but this is what I went with for my best guess.
Here is my 2A. I will say this is much harder to compile than A or 1A. There is Clarinda on an island, there is the 3 Lake Okoboji schools with no one that close, it was a pain. I will also say there is not great balance, but that is the way 2A has sort of been the last 2 years, so I would guess that will continue.

District 3 the NE Iowa district, again this is a where does Forest City go question, and while Oelwein and Denver are closer to Waukon this makes the most sense with the entire map.
District 4 is a district I don't care for because of the strength, DHH will be good, but lost a lot. Hampton Dumont might be ok dropping down, Denver maybe, but overall kind of a weak district.
District 5 is essentially a River Valley conference district so I see something like this happening. West Liberty or West Branch could also be part of this.
District 6 is sending 3 Iowa City area schools down to far SE Iowa, I could see those SE schools go with Ottumwa area schools, but to me sending the Iowa City schools makes the most sense.
District 7 is putting those Ottumwa area schools with Pella Christian and PCM which I thinks makes things more balanced.
District 8 this is basically a DSM area district with Clarinda. I figured change things up a bit from last time.
Again these are not perfect, but I don't know if there is a perfect solution with where the schools are.

Who gets sent with the SE schools? To me it could be Solon, Williamsburg or Assumption. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer I went with Solon but I could see either of the other two as well, that would have a impact on the other districts.
I also switched Saydel and Nevada for competitive balance, I think that Nevada can probably win the district they are in now, where they might have finished 4th in the one with Mt. Vernon, Williamsburg and Benton.

This is my best attempt at 8 man, with 69 teams I wonder if the state might consider 9 districts instead of 10 and go 6 districts of 8 and 3 of 7, but I went with the 10 like they have had the last few cycles.

I am going to say I would have the least knowledge about how to put 8 man districts together, I did try to separate some schools like Don Bosco and GR, but overall this is all on geography.
I have not heard anything concrete on River Valley yet, but I do now KP cancelled on them. Not sure what their kids will do. I do not believe they can field an 8 man team.
For 3A that NW area is where it really starts and will dictate everything else. I personally think Humboldt and Algona have to go out there, either with Webster City or Carroll. To me WC makes the most sense, then you get a clump of 3 that are close and then another clump of 3 on the other side. Here's my prediction just for fun!

Why would you have Sioux Central in D1 over MMCRU or South O'Brien? Let alone HMS or Sibley? I think Marcus and Paullina are way too far away from Britt, and Belmond, let alone Lake Mills
