west high vs pleasant valley.

Should be a great game. I'm biased but I think West gets it done. Their SOS will show through as the season continues. The team has improved drastically. Should be interesting.

Really? Iowa City West and Pleasant Valley's total opponent's record are both 36-28. Played the same division, both played Bettendorf and CR Kennedy. How can you say they're more prepared than Pleasant Valley? It's a wash.

The wild card issue: West has not had to defend the triple option and I don't know how well they will do this on Friday, given they have not seen this before. It is not easy for high school kids to be prepared for their defensive assignment each play on less than one week preparation. PV has a lot of new faces this year, but is starting to run this high risk offense a lot cleaner as the year goes on, and the QB seems to be getting better on his reads each week. If turnovers are equal, PV will win.

PV lost to North Scott and Linn-Mar, close, early in the season and Bett later, three "good" loses. I think their triple option will prove too much to handle.

Can't speak on PV but I have been to 6 of Wests games. From week 1 they have improved . Their oline hasn't really done much to get the running game going..on defense Milani Greene Eads and Yeager have played well. Doyle and Koch at lb are new but tough kids. They have a good kicker in Gordon and I think they've ran a fake punt successfully every game. Oliver Martin and Tyler Eads are their go to guys on offense both solid athletic with good hands. Weather should be beautiful for the game and turnovers will determine who wins.

This was a good football game. West looked better in the first half and PV much better in second half. A thick fog rolled in for the second half and it was hard to see the game. I think this favored PV, as West was the better passing team, PV the better running team. Seeing receivers downfield had to be difficult; However, I think the thing that turned this game was the last 1:50 of the first half. PV, with one time out, punted the ball down to the West 15 yard line. West had the ball and a 21-7 lead. I am thinking, run the ball and keep the clock running, if you break a long run, go for the score then. Be happy with at least a 2 TD lead at half. Instead, West came out throwing, and threw 2 incomplete passes to stop the clock, ran it once and PV used its only timeout. PV got the ball back around mid field with plenty of time to score, and they did score a TD right before half on a screen pass. This changed everything; PV took that momentum and outplayed West in the second half. I thought both teams could move the ball on the other fairly well;. West shot themselves in the foot several times in the second half with a lost fumble and costly holding penalties. PV had a TD called back on holding too, had to settle for field goal. Overall, exciting game. Good luck to both in playoffs.

Agreed. From that point of the game, it was all PV. Many of us were thinking the same thing, run 3 times, chew up clock, go in up 14. Instead, PV scores, has ALL the momentum, and outscores West 31-3 after than. Huge huge momentum killer.
