BCMoore Week 4 Rankings

1. Pella 188.51
2. Solon 183.93
3. DC-G 183.38
4. Assumption 173.25
5. Decorah 172.75
6. W-SR 171.91
7. SB-L 171.90
8. Wahlert 171.33
9. Webster City 169.93
10. West Delaware 168.85

CR Xavier is ranked #16. Wasn't very impressed by them agaist Benton, and IMO Luke has them far too high for having proven nothing, but not sure they shouldn't be in the top 10.

I don't think they've done any more or any less than any of the other teams in 3A. Don't think there's a clear number #1 at this point of the season, but I don't think it's egregious to have Xavier at 1.

Wow. That 3A-District 4 is brutal. I really do not understand, other than punishing Wahlert and Assumption for moving down, what the Iowa High School Athletic Association was thinking when they built that district.

When I watched Xavier play I don't think they are the best team, but it doesn't matter what I think, that's not what I'm saying. The unbiased computer rankings interest me. The computer model thinks the top 3 have done more than the rest of the 3A field.

DC-G at #3 is 10.13 points higher than Assumption at #4. Assumption at #4 is 10.01 points higher than Xavier at #16. So the difference between #3 and #4 is greater than the difference between #4 through #16.

You're talking about districts that were assigned two years ago. Here are the records for the D4 teams after the 2015 and 2014 seasons in their former districts. Wahlert and Assumption were in 3A those years as well, so if they were being "punished" then I'm pretty sure the IHSAA would have done it the first two years in 3A.

2015
Assumption (9-3)
Wahlert (3-7)
West Delaware (12-1)
Marion (0-9)
CPU (4-5) *2A
CCA (5-5)
Central Dewitt (1-8)
Maquoketa (7-4)

2014
Assumption (5-5)
Wahlert (3-7)
West Delaware (10-2)
Marion (1-8)
CPU (6-4) *2A
CCA (7-3)
Central Dewitt (4-5)
Maquoketa (1-8)

D4 is inflated right now because they haven't played anyone. They won't have a team in the Semi-Final, possibly even the Quarterfinal, depending on which district they're paired with.

Up 24-0 going into the 4th quarter. Won 31-21. Other than that the first team defense has shut out 3 opponents. Regina scored with 12 seconds left and the scout team in. They can only play what is scheduled

BC Moore's ratings are always weighted heavily by the strength of schedule. Assumption has played Bettendorf and West Delaware, and Wahlert started out with two 4A teams with combined 5-3 record, so that plays more into their ratings than their big wins against average 3A teams so far. I'll believe a team is good when they start beating good teams. Hanging up 60-point wins against some hapless team in football means absolutely nothing to me, no matter which district it's in. Beat a top ten team, and that means something. As the above posters implied, the playoffs sort out the really good teams pretty fast. That's why I'll go with Pella and Xavier, because they have shown, over the years, that they can beat strong teams, not just steamroll a bunch of weak sisters.

I would also go with DC-G since they defeated Pella this year. Solon beat a common opponent of Xavier's by more than Xavier, and have also defeated Washington and Mt. Vernon. I would say they should be thrown in as well.

I'm not arguing for pure computer rankings, I just enjoy putting them out for discussion. Many of the predicted win margins so early in the season are far from possible when coaches put subs in and the 35 point rule gets the clock moving, so the computer model is certainly not the standard everyone should go by.

I think the Top 10 (human) rankings after week four on this thread all have the right teams, for the most part, in the top 10. We can argue all week about the proper order, if there is such a thing. The 3A field is probably (a little more) wide open this year than most. Solon and DC-G certainly both belong near the top, also. And the best-coached top team will win the title.

I've seen a couple people say Regina scored against the Xavier 'scout team'. I can assure you Schulte never left the field on offense or defense until the end of the game. I recall because I thought it was a risk not worth taking.

He wasn't on the field on Xavier's last possession of offense or defense along with their other starters
