1. BGM 4-0
2. Belmond-Klemme 4-0
3. Garrigan 4-0
4. Logan-Magnolia 3-1
5. Denver 3-1
6. Audubon 3-1
7. West Sioux 4-0
8. Pleasantville 4-0
9. Bedford 3-1
10. Winfield-Mt. Union 4-0

Looking... Earlham 3-1, Montezuma 3-1, Colfax-Mingo 3-1, South O'Brien 3-1, West Hancock 3-1, Pekin 3-1

Yes and I can see how people can disagree with that but one loss in overtime I don't think knocks them out of top 10. Earlham is right there but as of now I feel Bedford is the better team. Earlham's win I would say is no fluke but want to see how they fair in the next couple of weeks. I have actually thought about changing my rankings to the top 16. If I do I will explain when I do it.

I think Belmond-Klemme is a bit too high at #2. Their opponents are a combined 2-14 so far. If they can keep it within 2 TD's vs Garrigan, I'll be surprised.

On the flip side, I think West Hancock should be ranked. I could see them also winning by a decent margin vs BK in a few weeks.

Belmond has one of the best athletes in the state which can win you most games in class A.

Winner of BG/B-K next week #1? Not sure what to predict for BGM but win or lose does anyone think this week's 2 vs 3 BG vs BK winner deserves #1 spot?

BGM will roll over GMG, so there is no ranking value in their performance Friday. If either B-K or Garrigan puts up a clear cut victory I say give them the top spot. If it's close, winner is #2 and loser should stay top 5.

81-0. Must have been one of those revenge games. That's exactly why most people I know loved watching BGM get pummeled in the championship game two years ago. Their fans still complain about having to play a "1a" team in the finals. Laffy !!

You are just trying to stir the pot, if you were there you would understand. Obviously you were not. 61-0 at half, varsity pulled at half.

The point is simple. Get to 35 and pull your starters. Have some class. I understand you can't control the quality of your schedule, but you can control the fashion in which you win.

So games should end at 35 pts.? Has nothing to do with class, has everything to do with playing time. That's all, no motives to make other team look foolish. Our team has played half games nearly all year, so we should play one qtr? How about kneel 3 downs? Most of these players will never play football again it's over after this year. I think they should play as much as possible, or why would they want to put in the work to be the best they can be? to watch? But I agree you can't stomp teams but what do you do when jv scores?. It's ultimately up to the opposing team to stop you, when they get tired of it they will work harder to not allow it to happen. So it's not that simple.

The point is that if your varsity is dominating at that high of a level, then odds are unless you enjoy running up the score.....then it's not worth the risk of injuring one of your players. If it's no challenge, how is it helping your team? It only takes one turn of an ankle or twist of a knee to really change the rest of your season.

What's your point? Varsity has to play.

BGM Has the best head coach in class A hands down; took a program when he got there that didn't even have a varsity schedule and is now a contender year in and year out! I think he knows what he is doing?

Best sports quote applies here I think from the U or Bobby Knight " If you don't like what were doing stop it" Its not BGM's or any good programs problem for teams getting blown out by them. They put in the time and effort to blow you out deal with it either get better or shut up. Yes agree there is a point but if they aren't even playing kids in second half get better or quit complaining cause could be a lot worse.

I don't hear you complaining about the scores in 8 man play, take a look, not uncommon! So what do you propose? How humiliating would it be to just take the kickoff and walk up and had it over to the other team? Play 8 against 11? Get real these boys deserve to play and continue to condition for the games in the playoffs. I do not disagree with some of your reasoning's of potential injuries. Take a look across the districts and tell me it is any different any where else! Short of creating another class between A and 1A give me a good answer. Single out BGM, not cool, they have worked hard for where they are! They have been in these shoes themselves and dug their way up out of the hole. Either start digging or forfeit your season.

Take a look at D3 in A. I follow this district in particular and know that the top 3 teams could have easily won games by 70 points. The coaches have respect for one another and understand programs are going to have down years. Most games I have been to this year I have watched jv play the opponents varsity for most of the 3rd quarter and then jv play jv in the 4th. Those kids also deserve to play. What's gained by playing your starters and getting up by 50-60 points??? Maybe we should go back to the 50 point rule?? I have never understood why 8 player games get so out of hand other than there are a very limited number of lower level kids.

Anyone want to pull statistics of enrollment here? BGM two years ago took it on the chin to a very good football team just like all the teams they played that year did! I, for one know that they are nowhere close to 1A status and utilized all of their starters to the fullest. Not a ton of depth but a ton of talent. What I hear is that "the team they played could have taken on the 1A champs of that year" and put up a fight or maybe even won it. That is a compliment!! This is two years later and most of these boys didn't see play time in that game. Start figuring out what it takes to be a winner with what you have or bow out! That simple stop jabbing at a good BGM team for doing just that!

Nobody likes it including the BGM coach! Implement a white flag rule, reset the scoreboard, how the hell is any of it not just as demeaning? ("Wow "Big shot beat team "Down this year" 35 to 0 in 10 minutes of play, they had to throw in the towel") No difference! The only point to consider is if you are hurting your teams potential to move deeper towards the championship if you pull them too soon or too often. If the championship doesn't mean anything to anyone, then why so much hype to get there???!!!

The reason 8 man scores are so lopsided is because of the field size. They shorten the field so you're almost always in 4 down territory, yet they keep it the same width. The width is the biggest issue, it makes guys have to cover the same area as 11 man, except you're missing 3 help defenders that you can push people back to. This just amplifies the talent difference between players. Hopefully that makes sense. Think of having the same size basketball court for space but only playing 3 v 3.

As for BGM, they haven't been doing anything that they haven't been doing for years. It's not like this is the first year scores have gotten out of hand, and its also not just them doing it to teams. Looking at stats in most games they do a good job of running the ball. That's the easiest way to prevent blowing people out, keep the clock moving. The second thing, which they do not appear to be doing well out is getting the ball to several guys. Usually they have 3-5 ball carriers, which isn't awful, but it could be improved. Part of that though is there are games that BGM only runs about 20 offensive plays because they just all work, it's hard to help that.

Look at some other top teams biggest wins (random teams).

Denver vs. North Tama: 6 different rushers 1 pass attempt (63-13)
Mount Ayr vs. Martensdale: 13 different rushers 1 pass attempt (63-0)
Lo-Ma vs. Griswold: 9 different rushers 3 pass attempts (63-14)
West Sioux vs. Gehlen: 9 different rushers 13 pass attempts (48-0)
BGM vs. GMG: 6 different rushers 6 pass attempts (81-0)

The numbers aren't actually THAT bad considering GMG had 4 fumbles and threw 2 pick 6's, but it's hard to know what's going on with the defensive substitutions without being there watching.

I still think BGM coaches could do a little better limiting the scores while not asking their players to take plays off, it's just not as bad as it looks sometimes. It's the people that come on here with poor arguments of "stop us" "get better" that really put a smile on faces when BGM is on the other end of the scoreboard.

Cardinal have you ever been to an 8 man field? The width is not the same it is 40 yards compared to 53.4 yards for 11 man. And Im one of those people who say get better. Why does that put a smile on your face when they are on other end? You like to see the people who have been successful fail? That is jealousy if I've ever seen it. Why is it a poor argument? If you were apart of a team that was dedicated and got up at 5 am every day and ran and lifted weights for 2 hours. Then you had a coach who trained you well and structured practices that you guys got the most out of them to succeed. Why should they give a darn about the team 15 miles away who would rather play video games instead of get better? Then the game comes around and they can't stop you why is that your problem? You probably think government hand outs are good thing too huh? Make sure everyone gets a ribbon why even play for a state title we should all win!

that is a fair argument and I respect that. i understand from a different persective it looks bad. just know that it isnt the coaching staff that wants to blow people out. The head coach and the OL/DL coach have been at BGM when they were the teams that were being beat on every week. the fans like to see the boys play well because when they played at BGM they were the team that got 50 pointed and the game was called off. up until 10 or 12 years ago BGM didnt have a winning season since the 60's. the games may get out of hand but all in all BGM doesnt find in ammusing to put 81 points on somebody.

I'm off on the field width but not the yards/person for width. An 8-man player is asked to cover more area hence amplifying the difference in talent. And to answer your question no, I don't like to watch people be unsuccessful, I enjoyed watching them be beat because of the mentality that "they're the only ones putting in the work". While it was not stated explicitly, it's what it sounds like when worded poorly. Not everyone is created equal, some teams are going to be more talented even if they work the same amount. Just because you can beat up on somebody doesn't mean you should. I was even defending BGM saying it's really not as bad as it looks, but to think they can't find a way to limit it without embarrassing the opponent by giving the ball directly to them doesn't seem like a stretch.

I agree

It's a good problem to have. All you can do is tell people to look at the box score and come to their own conclusion.

1) Lack of total plays (essentially scoring every time you touch the ball)
2) Run dominate (keeps clock running in the first half)
3) Turnovers, specifically fumble recoveries (the other team making mistakes)
4) Sharing carries (reduced percentage for main guy/guys)

If all of those things are evident then there is really nothing for anyone to complain about. I'm personally not sold on playing people out of position, that's just inviting bad things to happen.

Regardless of field size, the field is the same size for both teams. The point here was why is there no ridicule against those teams? They can pull their studs just the same. Only way to fix is divide the class again, look down the districts again, all show 4 to 5 barnstormers teams and 3 to 4 scrubs.

I happen to know for a fact that this coach ripped butt on that night for a punt return for 6 that he directed a fair catch. The kid just didn't hear him. Anyone want to argue that?

Looking at quick stats. Your argument that BGM subs frequently in blow outs doesn't stack up. When questioned on radio specifically about the GMG game the coach stated that the jv plays a full schedule. Therefore the varsity plays on Friday nights. Like I said BGM fans still whine about getting blown out in the championship game by who they call a 1a team. They complain about how unfair it was etc, the fact is. That wasn't the only western Iowa team who would have handled them then. Go back to stopping the game at 50 point lead. Oh that's right, the coaches claimed they wanted the chance to manage the games themselves and the schools were losing concession revenue. The BGM kids are great kids. Their head coach, well......I have yet to hear many good things spoken about him. Even from BGM people.

What bs!! I was at a game two years ago when BGM was up 55-0 late in the third. The team they were playing went for it on fourth down. Didn't make it, immediately put their subs in which consisted of almost all freshmen. Most of them not weighing 150 lbs soaking wet. BGM startes run it in on the first play for 40 yards...oops holding. They run it in again from 50. Oops offsides. Pretty obvious what the officials were doing. So BGM runs it in again for the TD. Afterwards the BGM coach claimed he didn't know the other team had their reserves in. This from the best coach in class A? All the while the announcer is cheering on the fans with. "That's another BGM. Crowd yells " first down". Yeah classy stuff.

Anything else? Do you feel better yet? Most people/players I would think would root for teams in their conference that make it to state, I do. Not try to rip them down (you do).Jealousy will get you nowhere. Deny your not jealous whats your reason why you would attack BGM? Our personal savior?
This class thing is bs. By you stating this you think you are better than everyone else a "class"above. Do you not put your pants on one leg at a time? The only way we were better than you was we beat you. Everyone makes mistakes, you for posting this trash and me for responding to it.
Judging from the score you gave I estimate your from Belle Plaine, player?
I'm sorry you don't like our first down cheer, it's just a cheer, buck up. (I've heard worse in the dome)

I guess we need to cheer softer?? so not to hurt anyone's feelings??! sorry you feel this way Saywhat2, but we are supporting our team not running yours down by cheering!! End of story! If you don't like that, maybe stay home and just read the paper the next day. this is HS football!! all about school pride, accomplishment, teamwork, sportsmanship and support. Try it out!!
