For the sake of getting conversation going....
I picked South Tama to finish #1 in this district and Union to finish #2 at the start of the year. After the first three games of the season, I see this reversed and picked Union to win this match-up. Curious as to why others have picked South Tama.
Here's what I've seen so far this season:
South Tama
-Tama 34, Grinnell 7 (ND)...Easy win, but Grinnell sits 0-3
-Tama 17, Vinton-Shellsburg 14 (ND)...Very Close game, Vinton sits 1-2
-Tama 27, Iowa Falls-Alden 14... Close game, Iowa Falls sits 0-3
Union
-Union 25, Gladbrook Reinbeck 7....Easy win, G-R is ranked #5 in A (yes, smaller class) and sits 2-1 (only loss to Union)
-Union 12, CPU 32...CPU put up points late and is ranked #6 in 2A and sits 3-0
-Union 44, RS 14...Easy win, R-S sits 0-3.
My perception is that Union has played well against better competition, and South Tama has not played as well against lesser competition. The 3A match-ups for ST are a valid point of contention...
Union's heavy dose of sophomores starting/playing leads to an unpredictable nature. Those players (QB, RB, line/defense, etc.) should get better and more consistent as the year progresses.
Thoughts?
