This matchup looks like it will likely decide the winner of District 3. Both teams are ranked in the Top 10. Waukon is coming off a big 14-3 win over Beckman. NFV lost to Independence but has been rolling since, including a 35-0 win over CPU and a 38-15 win over Oelwein. What are your thoughts and predictions for this game?

Waukon....something like 27-14.
I have a hard time believing Waukon will be able to run the ball consistently. While NFV's run D has been stout, their pass D has been inconsistent. I think NFV will have a slight advantage as they can expect 35-40 pass attempts from Hesse. At the same time, Waukon has not played an Off line as big/physical as NFV's. Waukon did hold Beckman to just 3 points last week but NFV's Off is a lot better than Beckman's.

Prediction: NFV 21 Waukon 12

Very good point Jen. Cresco had 2 off linemen who were 6'7" and 4 guys on the line over 250 lbs but I know they do not compare to NFV. NFV is huge! My prediction is NFV will keep it on the ground and establish a running game.

Teenage, that is some bold prediction you have there. Would not have guessed NFV was going to keep it on the ground.

What? NFV isn't going to spread them out and throw it all over the yard? Get out of here

All credit to NFV...but didn't Waukon also lose its leading ruasher in the 1st quarter? And Jen did Dillon Baumler not play, or do you not consider him one of the 2 main runningbacks? Any idea how long he is out for? Good player.

And Tiger Pride in Week 2 you picked NFV over Independence....we know how that turned out...looks like no one is perfect!

Trey Kuhens, who was injured prior to week 1, was expected to get most of the carries for NFV this season.

Dirtbag, its a little different when you pick a team to lose by 2 touchdowns and then they win by 40 points. Wouldn't you agree?

Tiger...absolutely wouldn't agree...BringIt was brave enough to predict a final score but you did not. But you picked NFV over Indy and they lost by 23. We have no clue how much you thought NFV would beat Independence. I'm guessing you thought NFV would roll...and they got schooled. Good news is they will not meet Independence again!

Jen...you said NFV played without their two main runningbacks...and Baumler played. So who is the other runningback you are referring to?

They got schooled.. Someone obviously wasn't present at the game..

That is impressive if Baumler is 2nd string. And right...but thanks to HUDL you can watch the entire game. Independence is tough but they are also 3A. But yeah...watch it..schooled. 38-15. NFV will not run into them again.

Dirtbag I don't what you have against NFV or who you cheer for, but obviously they must have offended you some way when they brought home the 2A championship last year. They have a lot of first year starters due to all the talent they graduated and are already a much different team than they were 3 weeks ago when they turned the ball over 5 times and had a dozen of penalties. Also that game was 22-15 with 5 minutes left until the houdini play Holt made when the punt snap went over his head, so I'm sure how that is getting "schooled".

Dirtbag you clearly didn't end up watching that game on hudl did you, and not a big deal but if your gonna talk like you know something about the game get the score right.

Tiger I have nothing against NFV! Great team. Could make another run at the the 2A trophy. But Waukon also turned the ball over 6 times and had 12 penalties Friday night and guessing you would not accept that as an excuse! Waukon got way to one dimensional Friday when their leading rusher left the game after an 80 yard TD run was called back due to holding. Give NFV some credit...and in the previous game give Independence some credit. NFV throttled Waukon...no denial...and Independence throttled NFV...can't reverse it. Both teams 4-1. NFV might have a lot of 1st year starters but 7 of their top 11 tacklers are seniors. Good for them they got away from 1A and Iowa City Regina and have gotten a lot of help from Valley of Elgin kids. And Holt..best athlete on the field that night. Stud. [That's how you get schooled!].

My apologies Chow...I did watch the game...but it was 36-15. Should have watched the extra points and 2-point conversions closer. So a 3-touchdown difference and not a 3-touchdown and 2-point conversion difference. My bad.

You are forgetting the fact NFV was up 28-0 a minute into the second quarter and that Indy was about to punt the ball to NFV only up a TD with only 5 minutes left. Comparing the games is dumber than s**t lol! Btw most of their Seniors didn't start last year, because of like I said the class that graduated. Also, no doubt Holt is a beast. Him and Juhl are both very impressive I wouldn't be surprised to see Indy make a deep playoff run and they deserve credit, I'm just saying NFV is clearly capable of playing a lot better than they did that night..

I was thinking last year NFV had a 7-turnover game to CPU and lost early in the season. Like this year, they got beat straight up as turnovers are part of the game. Also like last year, I anticipate them avoiding those mistakes again for the remainder of the season and winning the title again.

Hey Tiger Pride ...we are bonding...you are starting to give Indy credit. And after 3 quarters NFV has a habit of holding up 4 fingers...meaning its a 4 quarter game! And after 4 quarters it was 36-15. You have to play 4 quarters! Am I wrong on that??? Does the entire game count? But I'm not sure why it bothers NFV to lose to Independence? They are 3A...you won't see them again. No different than you, I'm just saying Waukon is clearly capable of playing a lot better than they did that Friday night....but that particular night NFV dominated.

And UFF, it could happen and NFV could play for a title. You mention turnovers, and guessing you saw an incredible game 3 years ago when Waukon had a 20 point lead at Union with 4 minutes left and turnovers cost Waukon the game. And in the playoffs, Waukon eliminated those turnovers and won at Union. NFV could do the same. NFV is a contender for the title but has to stay away from injuries and can't have the personal fouls and penalties that have plagued them. And UFF, not sure what is going on in Union? Lots of high expectations...you don't see them getting back on track? Not familiar with the team but have so much respect for Coach Hadecek.

Agree. Great teams avoid making turnovers or at least make the most of them when given the opportunity.

Union will get back on track. Speaking of turnovers, in three losses this season Union threw 7-INTs. Union has a very young team, a solid defense, a big line, and has played a tougher schedule. Their QB play was hurting them, but last weekend they turned to a sophomore and moved the previous QB to WR (who is a good athlete and should fit in better). Still young and still a lot to learn, but the whole team is moving in the right direction. They should be at their best at the end of the season and look to be very tough next season.

Big matchup with A-P this weekend that likely decides 2nd in the district. Most have A-P ranked now, but I'm taking Union.

I think what TigerPride is trying to say is the NFV vs Indee game was a lot closer than the Waukon vs NFV game. The score margarine was a lot bigger than how close the game actually was. NFV had Indee stopped to a 4th down, but Indee scored on one of the luckier plays I have ever witnessed in HS sports. As for the NFV vs Waukon game, it wasn't close from start to finish. Even if Waukon had their starting RB, I still think Hesse would have been forced to pass the ball 35-45 times. Waukon couldn't do anything with Ethan Lape and Juan Harris blowing everything up in between the tackles. Also, with Nick Baumler and Jesse Mackey at LBs, these kids were flowing sideline to sideline stopping everything. NFV was also without their starting DE who had 2 sacks vs CPU two weeks ago. I think NFV beats Waukon by at least 30 if they meet up again. There is nothing you can do to move the ball on these guys. This team will be dangerous when they are back to full strength. With Harris and Lape leading the way on OFF, 4 different RBs (Kuhens, Kuhens, Baumler, and Mackey) will be fresh and keep defenses guessing. This will be different than last year when NFV had 2 main backs.
