Tuesday, Jan. 10 Games, Cancellations

I think most of the HOIC is cancelled. I know that South Hamilton/North Polk, CMB/Nevada and PCM/Greene County are cancelled. Haven't heard about Saydel/Gilbert. That was supposed to be played in Des Moines, but not sure how the roads are up around Gilbert. After getting our kids once their games were cancelled, I was surprised at how good the roads were. The news made it sound dangerous all over in our area.

DM Hoover beat Ames in Ames by 4 in 4 overtimes. Hoover has now played 7 overtime periods in last two games over a five-day period. Won both games.

PC missed a lot of shots but continued to play excellent defense. They made scoring very difficult for DC-G, especially their leading scorer T. Grove. DC-G clawed back to within four at 38-34, but PC finished on a 20-9 run as DC-G was unable to effectively press the athletic Eagles.

PC currently has a half-game lead in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 5-1 (8-1 overall), but they have given the other leaders in the loss column, Pella and DC-G, their only losses on the year.

A tough Newton team lead by Gholson and Sturtz comes to PC on Friday when the league reaches the halfway point of the season, and they will be coming off a difficult home loss to Norwalk. Meanwhile, Pella keeps winning close games with a one-point win at Oskaloosa last night. A three-pointer that would have tied the game was missed by Osky (offensive rebound was tipped in), and Pella escaped.

Just wondering how or why this score was so low 43-39 for 4 OTs? I know Hoover plays very good defense and Ames is no slouch. However are the kids that offensively inefficient or is the style being preached really to slow down tempo and pick and choose when to score? My guess more towards the latter but if you have gifted kids why not let them play and take advantage of their skills?

Wasn't there, but heard that Hoover was stalling most of the game. I think it was 5-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. For one of the OT's, apparently Hoover got the tip, held the ball for the entire OT, took a last second shot and missed to send it to another OT.

Another example of Iowa HS BB needing shot clocks.
