Please remember and abide by the rules of
The End Zone. The End Zone is for Iowa prep fans only. Whatever is said in The
End Zone, must stay in The End Zone.

For those of you who are not familiar with The End Zone, this information is
only available to IowaPreps.com premium subscribers and mainly focuses on
recruiting in both football and basketball. This edition focuses mainly on
the Class of 2008. It talks about players receiving new offers, setting up
more visits before Signing Day, and a lot of recruiting tidbits that are stocked throughout The
End Zone!

With
Signing Day 2008 getting closer and closer, it is time to focus on that before
anything else. One player who just recently made his decision was
Gladbrook-Reinbeck lineman Tyler Luethje. This underrated athlete
has been a sought after college prospect and had a lot of options at the next
level. But instead of waiting to see what a school like Northern Iowa had
to offer on an official visit later in the month, Luethje ended the recruiting
process when he committed to South Dakota State. This senior held
scholarship offers from Minnesota State Moorhead as well as Montana State
throughout the recruiting process.

Luethje
has been profiled on this site many times but there are a few names of athletes
that have really been running the radar. Everyone knows about Central
Lyon, GLR athlete Nate DeJong and that a number of college programs are
hoping to land him. But his teammate, defensive end/tight end Joel
DeJongh
, is also a sought after prospect. This talented senior
currently holds scholarship offers from Northwest Missouri State and Augustana.
In the end, it may be tough for DeJongh to turn down the Division II runner ups
from Northwest Missouri State but only time will tell in this matter.

Des Moines Roosevelt lineman Tyler Wells has been a force on the football
field but has not seen much love on this site. However, that is about to
change. After mentioning that he could possibly visit Northern Iowa later
this month, I caught up with him and talked to him about that. It sound
like the Panthers want him as a walk on so he is unsure about the visit.
He has official visit Northwest Missouri State and received an offer but that
doesn't sound like an interest to him. Wells is focusing more on his
junior college options with schools like NIACC and Iowa Central.

Sioux
City North has been producing some talented kickers over the last few years and
senior Max Martin is the next in line. He has taken official visits
the past few weeks to Wayne State and South Dakota. The Wildcats of Wayne
State have extended Martin a scholarship and he is expected to hear back from
South Dakota about an offer on Tuesday. If South Dakota does step up with
a scholarship, this senior mentioned that he may commit on the spot. He
really enjoyed his visit to their campus and likes the option to play Division
I-AA football.

While
James Hurt and James Vandenberg of Keokuk have been getting most
of the attention, the Chiefs have a lot of other athletes that college coaches
are looking to land. Another target for Vandenberg in the passing game was
Logan Granera. Although this has yet to be confirmed, it has been
rumored that he has visited Truman State, picked up an offer, and recently
committed. They have also extended a scholarship to Hurt as well.
Other rumors that I am looking into include linebacker Cole Lockwood
visiting Northwest Missouri State, lineman Mike Neuendorf visiting
Nebraska Omaha and Northwest Missouri State, and running back Cornell Rice
visiting Tennessee Chattanooga. These come from a very good source but
have yet to be confirmed at this point.

As
for players that readers of this site should know about, Marshalltown
quarterback Tyler Peschong had a banner day this past week. This
Elite All State senior spent this past weekend taking a visit to Northwest
Missouri State. Like many other Iowans, he left with a scholarship in hand
from the Bearcats. But that was not the only good news he received that
day. Peschong also saw both Augustana College and Southwest Minnesota
State offer on that day as well. He currently boasts five scholarship
offers from Division II schools and is expected to finish up his visits before
making a final decision.

Another
outstanding quarterback in the CIML was John Teigland of Indianola.
He has the size that college coaches like and the ability that they want to land
in a quarterback recruit. Teigland was holding scholarship offers from
Minnesota State Moorhead, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota State Mankato before
adding to that list this past weekend. Nebraska-Omaha became the
latest school to offer this talented senior after he spent the weekend there on
an official visit. Teigland's recruitment will be very interesting to
follow as he is set for a visit to Illinois State, a Division I-AA school, this
weekend.

West
Lyon running back/safety Chris Tracy thought he would have the recruiting
process behind him when he committed to North Dakota in December. But that
commitment means very little to other schools as they continue to show this
talented senior a lot of attention in the recruiting process. South Dakota
State given Tracy an offer and Northern Iowa still wants him to take an official
visit to Cedar Falls. Will that be enough to land Tracy? Only time
will tell but there is no doubt that even with his decision made, he has some
things to think about in the next few weeks.

One
interesting rumor that I just received involves Cedar Falls linebacker Landan
Zaputil
. This All Stater may be lacking the size to receive a
scholarship at a Division I-A school but he can flat out play. The rumor
states that he received an offer from Northwest Missouri State and that he is
currently a soft commitment. There is also information regarding that he
is considering taking an official visit this weekend to Nebraska-Omaha. I
will be looking to confirm this information but have had trouble getting a hold
of Zaputil in the past few weeks.

I hope you enjoyed this latest installment of The
End Zone. Once again, thank you for subscribing to IowaPreps.com. If
