not really football related, but read that the Siouxland conference is adding Storm Lake Spencer Cherokee Western Christian ELC and Spirit Lake?

im not super familiar with the siouxland but this doesnt make alot of sense. Why would schools the size of storm lake and spencer want to join the smaller siouxland?

travel will be a mess!

Anyone more familiar with this?

Where else do you suggest they go?

Storm Lake maybe could go East, but that's just as much travel. They definitely don't belong traveling all the way to Larchwood though.

What needs to happen in my opinion is for NWIA to get blown up and have 3 conferences. Big schools like MOC, Sioux Center can snag LeMars, ELC, Spencer, Cherokee, Storm Lake and a few others closer to their size in the big conference.

Likes of West Lyon, Western, Central Lyon, Sheldon, Hinton, West Sioux, Okoboji, Spirit Lake in the middle sized one

Then drop down Boyden Hull and join them with the smaller War Eagle schools. Sibley already did that and said peace to the siouxland.

But there's too much conference pride up in this neck of the woods. Boyden Hull (126 BEDS) has no business playing Storm Lake (657 BEDS) every year in every sport.

Sounded at first that there was going to be a big school and little school siouxland conference too but now I'm hearing they're all gonna play each other once. I don't like it at all either but I don't see how anything else could have been done to keep the rest of the Lakes together, besides the Siouxland.

There is some talk of basketball going to "districts" at the IBCA level. Not sure how much traction it has but if that's the case I imagine baseball would follow and the conferences wouldn't matter a ton anyway.

im kind of shocked that coaches from the big or the little would want this. I could see Western Christian being happy because they finally have a conference.

from my understanding the Lakes fell apart due to travel issue and competition issues. Wouldnt this just bring the same issues to the siouxland 3x??

sibley saw the light and got out. whos next?? Little boyden hull want to play and travel to these big schools in every sport? yikes

Now that S-O is out, that leaves 15 teams and unbalances what could have been an easy split.

A 5/5/5 schedule for basketball would work -- play your group twice (8), everybody else once (10), and still have room for 3 non-conference games. Could do either by size or geography, though there will be a few outliers if trying to use the map.

Storm Lake (657)
Spencer (519)
Sioux Center (406)
MOC-FV (373)
Cherokee (286)
Spirit Lake (282)
Okoboji (274)
Sheldon (271)
Estherville-LC (266)
Unity (266)
Western (222)
West Lyon (200)
Central Lyon (181)
Rock Valley (174)
Boyden-Hull (126)

There are plenty of possibilities for hoops. Just depends if all the schools think they can fill out the non-conference to get to 21.

14 conference games: Play everybody once
16 conference games: 5 groups of 3; play your group H/A (4) and everybody else once (12)
18 conference games: 3 groups of 5; play your group H/A (8) and everybody else once (10)

Wrestling: Duals primarily against your class
Baseball/softball: Half twice, half once
Volleyball: Everybody once?
